Jean-Luc Brunel, a veteran modeling agent from France who was an acquaintance of Jeffrey Epstein, was arrested this week at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, the city's attorney general's office announced yesterday (Thursday).

Brunel, 74, was arrested Wednesday as part of an investigation that opened last year on suspicion of rape, assault and sexual harassment.

According to local media reports, the agent was stopped at the airport before taking off for the Ivory Coast.

Brunel has previously denied any connection to the actions of Epstein, the pedophile American billionaire who ended his life in a New York detention cell last year.

In August 2019 the Attorney General in Paris opened an investigation to examine whether Epstein had committed sexual offenses on French soil, or in the citizenship of the country.

The billionaire was on trial in a case of exploitation and trafficking in minors.

Has previously denied any connection to Epstein's actions.

Brunel was one of the founders of the "Karin" modeling agency in the 1990s, and also founded the MC2 agency in the United States together with Epstein.

Investigators began scanning the Karin's offices in Paris last month, and local media reported that the agent's lawyer had made it clear he would be willing to cooperate with police.

The agent sued Epstein in 2015, alleging that the billionaire's legal complications harmed him and damaged the reputation of the modeling agency he owns.

Committed suicide in the holding cell.

The agent was taken into custody about five months after U.S. authorities arrested Gileen Maxwell, Epstein's British girlfriend, on suspicion of involvement in the affair.

She denied that she helped the billionaire recruit and solicit minors for sexual purposes in the mid-1990s.

Maxwell has been held in a Brooklyn jail since July, and this week she was offered a $ 28.5 million bail release - but prosecutors are expected to oppose it.

At the court hearing, Virginia Roberts, an attorney and one of the plaintiffs against Epstein and Maxwell, argued that Brunel used to offer modeling jobs to young girls, and took 12-year-old girls to the United States so he could "send them to his friends, and especially to Epstein."

Roberts also claimed that Brunel was among the prominent men Maxwell instructed her to have sex with.
