French media reported today (Friday) that President Emanuel Macron is suffering from a severe cough and fatigue and a military doctor is by his side at any given moment while he is staying at a presidential holiday home near the Palace of Versailles outside the capital Paris.
Macron himself posted a brief photo post in which he claimed he was feeling well and continuing his work.
"I am working at a slightly slower pace due to the virus, but I will continue to focus on urgent issues such as treating the plague or, for example, negotiating Britain's exit from the EU."
"I want to assure you all that I am in good condition. I have the same symptoms as I had yesterday, mostly fatigue, headaches, dry cough, just like the hundreds of thousands of French citizens who had to experience the disease," Macron continued.
Macron promised to tell daily updates about his health condition and admitted that his infection with the virus was caused by a "moment of negligence."
Macron met with many European leaders including the Spanish prime minister and the Portuguese prime minister, who were forced into isolation yesterday.
The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Igor Matovic, also announced today that he has contracted the virus.
Matovic attended a meeting with President Macron about a week ago and may have been infected during the same convention held in Brussels, the capital of Belgium.
