PODCAST - MY CAR: THE RIGHT ENERGY [EPISODE 4] Flexfuel: the best of both worlds?

2020-12-18T16:59:05.691Z

Superethanol-E85: this name, still unknown to many motorists, defines a fuel used in so-called “flexfuel” engines. What are its characteristics and advantages? This is the theme of the 4th episode of the Figaro Partner and Jaguar Land Rover podcast, "My car: the ...

To explain the specificities of “flexfuel” engines and the advantages of superethanol-E85, three experts are gathered behind the microphone of the Podcast Figaro Partner / Jaguar Land Rover “My car: good energy”: Nicolas Kurtsoglou, engineer in charge of fuels at SNPAA ( National Union of Agricultural Alcohol Producers), Jean-Luc Moreau, auto journalist specializing in alternative energies and Laurent Butaye, communications director of Jaguar Land Rover France, whose group is the only one to offer an engine compatible with Superethanol-E85 in France. .

To begin with, Jean-Luc Moreau goes back to the definition of the “flexfuel” engine, this engine in which you can put either ethanol or gasoline in the same tank.

Then the experts detail the specificities and advantages of Superethanol-E85, this “green” fuel, now present in more than 2,050 stations in France.

First specificity, it is local.

Almost all of the superethanol found in our stations is produced in France, our country being the leading European producer with 12 million hectoliters per year.

Second advantage: it is durable.

It only contains between 15% and 35% gasoline.

The rest is renewable bioethanol because it is produced from cereals and sugar beets which, during their growth, absorb CO2.

Eventually, other plant compounds could be used such as forest waste, straw or corn stalks.

Thus, the production of bioethanol does not require any drilling or extraction of fossil resources;

it allows a reduction in CO2 emissions;

and it boosts the French economy, the production sector in France generating 9,000 jobs, direct, indirect and induced.

It is partly for its attributes that Superethanol-E85 is taxed less than other fuels.

At around 0.65 € per liter on average, it is therefore the cheapest on the market, another significant advantage for the driver!

From a fiscal point of view, you should finally know that vehicles that can run on E85 are mostly exempt from the penalty thanks to the reduction applied on CO2 emissions and that the gray card is free in most French regions.

At the historic English brand, the new Jaguar E-Pace combines hybridization and Flexfuel technology.

Its driver thus benefits from a low cost of use, advantageous taxation, a reduction in CO2 emissions, all with Jaguar design and driving pleasure.
