The year 2020 ended with a bang with the sale of the three famous Alfa Romeo BATs bodied by Bertone in the 1950s.
These three cars which bear the signature of one man, Franco Scaglione, are among the most extravagant creations of post-war automobile bodywork.
This is a first, the three BATs (BAT 5, BAT 7 and BAT 9) were sold in a single lot during a contemporary art sale organized by the house RM Sotheby's, on October 28 in New York.
In the midst of works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder, Mark Rothko and Jaser Johns, the presence of these cars is a way of paying tribute to the art of bodywork.
Estimated between 14 and 20 million dollars, the three BATs were awarded for 14,840,000 dollars (12,762,400 €).
This result certainly disappointed the organizers of the sale, but in absolute terms, it already represents a good sum.
