With "Resto du Coin", they dream of creating a French Uber Eats

A trio of entrepreneurs want to highlight the daily specials of neighborhood restaurants, while reducing commissions compared to usual delivery platforms.


A French 'Uber Eats' that is simple, local and fair at the same time, which benefits all restaurant owners.

This is the promise, to say the least tempting, of "

Resto du Coin

", an application already available for restaurant owners and which should open to the general public at the start of 2021. By drawing up the observation, widely shared in the restaurant world, that delivery platforms like Uber Eats or Deliveroo are cutting too far the margins of restaurateurs, a trio of French entrepreneurs have therefore decided to compete with these American giants.

Their credo?

Highlight the daily specials of restaurants closest to users, and limit costs for restaurant owners as much as possible.

The company aims to deliver 5,000 orders per day by the end of the year.

Platforms like Uber Eats or Deliveroo are becoming essential, but they take 30% of the restaurant owner's commission per order, which is absolutely colossal,"

said Yonathan Malet, one of the three co-founders.

Restaurant owners are obliged to register, especially since the start of the covid-19 epidemic, but sometimes they go there with their hearts content. ”

For Yonathan Malet, himself a major customer of delivery platforms,

“many users are now aware that these companies are cutting business margins, but everyone uses them anyway because their services are extremely efficient and very practices ”

.

And to continue:

"our idea is therefore to provide all the advantages of the application, in particular speed and simplicity, while fulfilling more equitable specifications."

Daily specials

To do this, the first pillar of “

Resto du Coin

” will be to offer only daily specials, three in number per day and per restaurant.

Daily specials allow restaurateurs to achieve economies of scale and customers to have fresher products,”

continues Yonathan Malet.

In addition, we can play on the 'news' side, sending users a notification during the day to showcase their favorite restaurant's daily specials.

On the cost side, the system is a bit more complex.

Indeed the objective of "

Resto du Coin

" is to offer a service at 1 euro paid by the restaurant owner, whatever the amount of the order.

But this service does not include delivery and will therefore only really be applied for "

click and collect

".

Customers who wish to be delivered to their homes will have to pay 2.90 euros in addition to their dish, a sum that the restaurant owner will supplement to pay a delivery person.

If desired, the restaurateur can manage the delivery of the dishes himself, or call on a specialized company which will offer him the application.

On average, deliveries will cost around 5 euros because distances are limited.

As the customer pays 2.90 euros, there is still two euros to pay for the restaurant

owner ”, estimates Yonathan Malet.

In most cases, this should therefore be less than the 30% charged by the usual platforms, especially for large orders.

“For some office orders at 100 euros, restaurant owners must now pay 30 euros in commission.

With us, it will be a fixed price. ”

Resto du Coin's ambition is to retain 1,000 restaurants by the end of 2021, to ensure around 5,000 orders per day.

Today, restaurateurs can already register on the professional application "

Resto du Coin pro

".

Customers will have to wait a few more weeks and the beginning of January 2021 to test the service.
