The Environment Directorate in Lattakia organized today a voluntary afforestation campaign in the Rabia Jabal Al Hurra region, in cooperation with the Directorate of Agriculture and the General Company for Internal Transport in Lattakia, to restore vegetation cover for the damaged forests on the occasion of the approaching tree festival.

Engineer Wafiq Kebibo, head of the Forestry Division in Rabi’a, explained in a statement to SANA that the site was divided into sectors and that each division was designated for its cultivation by the participants, and today 2,500 plants were planted in the designated site on an area of ​​100 dunams.

In turn, Eng. Jaber Suqour, Deputy Head of Forestry in Lattakia Governorate, said: The number of afforestation campaigns to date has reached 15 voluntary campaigns in which 13 thousand seedlings have been planted, and the number of volunteers has reached 1125 so far.

For her part, Dr. Lama Ahmed, the Environment Director in Lattakia, emphasized the importance of the campaign, as its aim is to preserve a healthy and renewable environmental wealth, protect it, and educate society against the factors of neglect and tampering with it.

Hudhaifa Kasu from the Peacebuilding Association said that this experience comes within the framework of his love for nature, stressing the importance of trees for preserving our lives and the environment, while the director of the Good Land Builders Zahwaat Al-Manla explained that Syria is like the phoenix and that it will rise from the ashes and return green again with the arms of its children.

Maher Nassour, a member of the Al-Dayaa Market team, confirmed that participating in afforestation campaigns is an act that stems from the love of the homeland and the land, and this unites us to have high morals aiming to preserve this natural wealth that belongs to all, while the engineer, Nagham Al-Atrash from the Syrian Trust for Development pointed out the importance of the tree as the lung of life As a symbol of fertility and greenery, it must be taken care of and preserved and all offenses that may affect it must be avoided.

Alaa Suleiman from the Young Environmental Researchers Club drew attention to the importance of increasing the amount of green spaces, restoring damaged forests, planting new green spaces, in addition to protecting natural forests from encroachments.

The campaign participated in many activities in the governorate and volunteers from the Revolutionary Youth Union branch, the Al-Dayaa Market Association, the Environmental Young Researchers Club, the Syrian Association for the Protection of the Water Environment, the Peace Makers Association, the Syrian Trust for Development, the National Society for Tourism Development, the Green Rawabi Society, the High Institute for Environmental Research and Builders of Good Land.
