A push by the Munich Regional Planning Association to protect groundwater could mean the end of the gravel extraction plans in Siegertsbrunn.

Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn

- In order to make a possible gravel mining in Siegertsbrunn as bearable as possible for the citizens, the community is now pursuing a two-pronged approach: As the local council decided unanimously, the town hall administration is to make preparations for an urban development contract with the entrepreneur who is on a agricultural area near the Muna site wants to mine gravel.

At the same time, preliminary investigations are to be initiated in order to be able to identify concentration areas for gravel mining in the municipality in the foreseeable future.

Surprising information could change everything

A push by the Munich Regional Planning Association to protect groundwater may even mean the end of the entrepreneur's gravel extraction plans.

As communal councilor Otto Bußjäger (UB) announced during the meeting, surprisingly for many, the planning association wants to identify priority or reservation areas for water supply in the region.

According to Bußjäger, the southern area near the Leonhardikirche, for which the entrepreneur could also apply for a permit for gravel mining, is intended entirely as a reserved area, the area near the Muna site at least partially.

In the priority areas, the protection of groundwater would have priority over other uses.

This probably includes gravel mining.

Because, as it says in the paper of the planning association, uses would then be excluded in which interventions in the subsoil are carried out, "the extent of which (...) significantly reduces the natural protective function of the groundwater cover (...)".

Gain time by suspending the approval process

However, the planning association must first put their heads.

Therefore, Bußjäger wants to play for a while and advocates applying to the district administration for a suspension of the approval procedure for gravel mining on the Muna site and paying full attention to the designation of the concentration areas.

You shouldn't let yourself be put under pressure by the entrepreneur and you shouldn't rush to issue the mining permit for the northern area.

"I'm not ready to give someone an early Christmas present," said Bußjäger.

The community has three options

No one will be given a Christmas present, emphasized Mayor Mindy Konwitschny (SPD).

As she had explained in a detailed presentation at the beginning of the meeting, which was partially broadcast via live stream, the municipality, should the district office approve the requested gravel extraction, only three options to restrict and control the gravel extraction in the place: the Creation of a development plan for a commercial area that should then prevent the planned gravel mining in the north, the designation of the concentration areas or the drawing up of an urban development contract.

Do not prevent, but negotiate advantages

None of the instruments could completely prevent gravel from being mined in the village at some point, the town hall chief made clear.

With the help of the urban development contract, however, one could negotiate various advantages for the citizens in terms of the northern gravel mining area.

Konwitschny and the lawyers advising the community hope that, among other things, they can knock out a limit on truck journeys, reduce operating times and a higher screen wall and prevent the construction of a fixed crushing plant that causes a lot of noise.

However, the statements made by Bußjäger also made the lawyers prick up their ears.

You now want to find out more about the planning association's groundwater protection plans and also consult with the district office.

According to Konwitschny, the previous signals from the district office did not indicate that the authority would reject gravel mining on the Muna site
