It is a tradition that Commandant Daniel Pleyer reminisces about the year of the Herrschinger and Breitbrunn fire brigade in the municipal council meeting before Christmas.
His conclusion: fewer exercises, many missions.
Herrsching - To be on the safe side, the rescue workers of the Herrsching and Breitbrunn volunteer fire brigades moved out in the fire truck with six instead of nine people, before commander Daniel Pleyer presented his annual balance sheet to the Herrsching municipal council this week.
So that in the event of an infection not all volunteers would have to be quarantined at the same time, he said.
The good news: "We haven't had any infections so far."
The firefighters are responsible for a good 11,000 residents and a community area of 21 square kilometers, reported Pleyer.
In addition, there are 1000 hectares of forest - and two hectares of it burned in April in the Riederwald.
“We were on duty for seven hours,” he recalled.
The arsonists were never identified, presumably they were walkers.
What is certain, however, is the trigger for the fire in an apartment building in Breitbrunn in January: foam cans were on the stove and exploded.
Thank god nobody was injured.
The tractor left a special smell in Breitbrunn in the summer when it overturned along with the 30,000 liter slurry trailer.
The successful reanimation of a vacationer who collapsed in a car still moves Pleyer.
The person was "actually dead," he said.
Only the quick response meant that the man was "awake and responsive when the ambulance arrived".
In total, the 77 active members from Herrsching and the 45 active members from Breitbrunn did almost 5600 hours of volunteer work.
The first responder deployed 326 times, plus 131 technical assistance and 71 fire operations as well as eight fire safety guards.
Pleyer was particularly pleased with the young people who joined the fire brigade in February after the “Heroes wanted” campaign.
From then on Herrsching had 24 and Breitbrunn had nine junior fire extinguishers.
Their training has been left a little by the wayside due to the pandemic, but he hopes for better times, the commandant said.
He brought the best news at the end: “The Starnberg District Office is about to procure the disaster control boat.” It is supposed to replace the old boat.
On behalf of all comrades, Pleyer accepted the benevolent applause of the councilors.
Your work is extremely important, emphasized Mayor Christian Schiller: "If the fire brigade no longer comes, nobody comes."
