In his speech, Dr. Osama Kaddour, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, stated that the Arabic language is the oldest language in the world, as it is the language of the Holy Qur’an and the Arab nation, pointing out that Syria contributed to protecting and defending it because it expresses the national identity through the establishment of the first Arabic language complex in Damascus and the issuance of the first law to protect The Arabic language In addition to the fact that the University of Damascus was the first university to study medicine in the Arabic language, he called on faculty professors and students in all departments to adhere to the Arabic language in defense of national existence.

For her part, Dr. Munira Faour, Head of the Arabic Language Department at the Faculty of Arts, during a lecture entitled (Linguistic Highlights on the International Day of the Arabic Language) reviewed the latest statistics on the use of the Arabic language in the world, indicating that 422 million people in the Arab world speak the Arabic language while more than one and a half billion people use it. One billion in the Islamic world, noting that the Arabic language has become the sixth official language in the United Nations General Assembly and was chosen exclusively for its role in preserving human civilization and culture, and it is the second language of many countries.
