In recent days, after a long period, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel.

The competent authorities are beginning to issue certificates, and the health system is beginning to prepare for the vaccination campaign.

Against the background of the arguments between supporters and opponents, it seems that another debate has been pushed into the corner: who is right to belong to the first wave of vaccinators.

Apart from medical staff, background sufferers, at-risk groups and senior citizens, who are undisputed to be the first, another very important group was unjustifiably excluded from the first vaccinated group: the dedicated caregivers caring for the elderly in their home, who are currently the second priority group.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), at the end of last year the population of senior citizens in Israel numbered 1,093,000 people, about 40% of them aged 75 and over. Of these, there are currently about 250,000 elderly people entitled to the Nursing Law, accompanied by about 100,000 caregivers. Israelis and another 40 thousand foreign caregivers. virus, corona, erupted into our lives by storm, broke one of the population of the elderly population and their families, and described them as a population at risk.

but when we all could not visit his parents, grandparents or neighbors adults, there are those who treated Since the outbreak of the crisis, it has been the caregivers who cared for those who could not take care of themselves. Following a joint move promoted by the Association of Nursing Service Providers and Social Security, they were defined as essential workers, so caregivers could work routinely and become the most important Of those elderly with the threatening world outside. The loneliness, as is well known, kills - and directly adversely affects the physical and mental condition of the elderly, about 30% of whom are defined as destitute, without family or relatives.

However, it is important to look reality in the eye and see that during this difficult time, there are also elderly people who need it - but do not receive appropriate care.

Since the outbreak of the corona crisis, Social Security has allowed some nursing home lawmakers who feared foreigners to enter their homes to temporarily receive money for the corona period instead of essential physical care, which they need to maintain their health.

Thus, those seniors, who the state concluded that in light of their health condition deserve hours of care, used the money for other purposes instead of purchasing care there.

As a result, a situation arose that during the most difficult period for the elderly, in which for many months they hardly left their home due to the fear of the virus, they were left with money - but without essential daily care.

In fact, from the moment they received the money, the elderly were left without care and without supervision and control on behalf of the state.

It is clear to everyone that money cannot replace human beings.

The Minister of Health, in all the considerations and prioritization of the vaccinated - the nursing staff must also be taken into account.

In view of their importance, it is appropriate that caregivers should also belong to the first vaccine group, in order to avoid a situation in which their vaccination is delayed.

The Corona period proved their vitality to the economy, their great importance for the senior citizens of Israel, and the fact that in fact their work allows the economy to run.

After all, who among us could have concentrated on his work knowing that his elderly father or elderly mother was at home, lonely and untreated.

Therefore, it is important to include the nursing staff among the first vaccinators, so that they can continue to provide the nursing seniors living in their home with the care they need.

Thus, the State of Israel will be able to allow the senior citizens, who have contributed to it all their lives, the basic right to grow old with dignity.
