The textile sector in Aleppo constitutes one of the most important pillars of the national industry due to its elements of distinction and the completeness of its industrial circles, starting with the availability of the raw material represented by the cotton crop and ending with the various textile factories and production lines that separate types of fabrics and are included in the manufacture of clothing, knitwear, curtains and furnishings.

The textile sector is facing several difficulties, which began to hinder this ancient industry in Aleppo and lead to an increase in the cost of the product, as SANA camera monitored the views of a number of industrialists working in the textile industries and their proposals for the advancement of this industry.

The industrialist Muhammad Samer Arab, a specialist in the manufacture of circular weaving and clothing, explained the importance of identifying the problems facing the development of this industry and finding solutions to them, pointing to the effect of the terrorist war mainly on it, which led to the limitation of its development in addition to the migration of industrialists, experts, skilled labor and weak purchasing power.

To overcome these difficulties, Arabs called for creating a qualitative investment environment that encourages immigrant capital to return to the homeland and thus enable competition and take the necessary measures to develop the cotton industry, especially genetically modified cotton, as well as develop the yarn industry.

Industrialist Louay Sukkar, a specialist in the manufacture of sugar and circular weaving, explained that it is necessary to focus on the manufacture of thread and its dyeing to improve the final product, which is the clothes that reflect the quality of the previous stages of the industry, and this requires upgrading the quality of production of cotton yarn, pointing to the importance of developing public sector factories and supporting them with ginned cotton and providing them with compact spinners that form The final stage of the production of fabrics is required to allow for a limited period to import cotton threads, to provide production incentives to the owners of dyeing facilities, and to secure the raw materials that enter their manufacture.

Industrialist Kamel Sabbagh Sharbati, a specialist in spinning and weaving industry, spoke about the shortage of cotton material, which led to a significant decline in textile industries, and some factories stopped production. According to his opinion, permitting the import of cotton threads temporarily leads to meeting the needs of the market by producing types of circular and linear weaving and fabricating cloth that helps Exporting clothing to the international market, thus preserving the level and reputation of the textile industry that has characterized Aleppo throughout history and encouraging industrialists to return to the homeland.

Industrialist Marwan Nanah, owner of a textile and textile factory, explained the need to combat smuggled fabrics and strict customs procedures to prevent tampering with customs items in order to protect the textile industry and furnishings and achieve competition, while industrialist Abdul Qadir Tarqji pointed to the need to improve the purchasing power of citizens and achieve quality in the cotton yarn industry to reach the required level in the industry And support for exports abroad by reducing the additional fees on the product.

The industrialist, Dr. Abdul-Ghani Kanaan, who is specialized in the automated knitting industry, called for the necessity of searching for new markets for export due to the weak local purchasing power and the high cost of the product.

Dr. Zahir Atal, Director of the General Organization for Ginning and Marketing Cotton, explained that the establishment is working on receiving the beloved cottons, ginning and storing them, and marketing the products from them and cotton seeds to the public and private spinning and oils companies, which is the first link of the textile industry, pointing to the decrease in the amount of cotton received this year to 13 thousand and 900 tons Of the estimated 80,000 tons expected to be received, as a result of planting spaces with cotton in unsafe places and not being able to receive it.

Attal added that the private companies have been given the necessary documents to supply the ginned cottons and to secure the raw materials for the operation of their factories, and what is related to the public sector companies are processed and contribute to securing the raw material for them.

Eng. Harith Makhlouf, Director of the General Organization for Textile Industries, stated that the corporation and its subsidiary companies of weaving, wool and carpets are working on importing cotton material from the General Organization for Ginning and Marketing Cotton and this year and due to the inability to import the material, our companies have worked to secure yarn for industrialists in Aleppo with the aim of supporting the textile industry. Aleppo was distinguished.

Engineer Hazem Ajjan, Director of the Industrial City in Sheikh Najjar, talked about the production components provided by the Industrial City to textile manufacturers, whose industry constitutes more than 60 percent of other industries, and the textile industry rings are integrated in it, starting from the primary yarn industry to the manufacture of textile fabrics that enter into various industries. All facilities for industrialists in this field through the decisions taken by the Board of Directors, in which representatives of the textile industry participate to support this industry.

Engineer Fares Al-Shehabi, head of the Aleppo Chamber of Industry, talked about the importance of supporting and developing textile industries by holding annual meetings to discuss the difficulties faced by the textile industries, which form the backbone of the Syrian industry, starting from the first rounds of cotton cultivation and ending with the manufacture and export of clothing by analyzing the problems and difficulties facing each axis In the textile industry, listening to the recommendations of the industrialists, organizing them within a comprehensive work matrix, and directing it to the government decision-makers to take the necessary decision to advance the textile industry.

Al-Shehabi added that the most important recommendations related to supporting the textile industry for clothing are to expedite the issuance of the new investment law, limit the spread of smuggled goods, establish an international exhibition for the garment industry in Aleppo, allow garment manufacturers to import textile fabrics that are not manufactured locally through temporary entry, and grant industrialists and traders their own mechanism to disburse the resulting pieces. For their imports and exports to secure the necessary parts within the preferential exchange rates.

With regard to the knitting industry, the Chamber’s industrialists recommend encouraging the procedures of payment and barter agreements with friendly countries and canceling the enclosure on acrylic strings not produced locally.

With regard to the knitted fabrics industry, the industrialists recommend setting up a mechanism to import ginned cotton according to the ability of local ginners to operate the public sector yarn factories at maximum production capacity and reduce the fuel values ​​of the factories by 30 percent.

With regard to the automated textile industry, the industrialists recommend conducting a comprehensive maintenance of spinning mills in the public sector, activating quality control on yarn, exempting industrialists from the debts they have accumulated from delay fines and financial benefits, and preventing the import of fabrics of all kinds.
