Retirement and nursing homes are particularly affected by the corona pandemic.
Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) has therefore planned a protective special unit.
The corona pandemic * is particularly hard on retirement and nursing homes.
Not infrequently, a single infection with the virus leads to a mass outbreak there.
In Bavaria, a new "task force" is to protect the homes better from new Covid-19 diseases from Monday.
Munich
- The number of
corona infections *
in Germany is still far too high.
Although the
exponential growth was
stopped
by the
“lockdown light”
in November, the numbers did not
decline
.
Since many
hospitals
in Germany are
already reaching
their limits and the number of free
intensive care beds
continues to fall, the government has now issued another
“hard lockdown”
, which has been in force since last Wednesday (December 16).
Corona virus in Bavaria: Söders new task force starts on Monday - protection in old people's and nursing homes
Bavaria's
Prime Minister Markus Söder
(CSU), together with
Chancellor Angela Merkel
(CDU), was the first to advocate such a tough but necessary
measure
.
The number of infections is one of the highest in Bavaria.
On the one hand, of course, this has to do with the fact that
Bavaria
also has the highest population after North Rhine-Westphalia.
However, the
death rate
in Bavaria is also
extremely high, which could be related to the frequent
mass outbreaks
in
old people's and nursing homes
, as they have occurred in the Erding district in recent weeks *.
Most residents of such facilities belong to the
high-risk group
for a
severe course
of
Covid-19 disease
due to their age
and are also often pre-stressed by illnesses.
In Bavaria (as of December 19) there have so far been 5156 fatalities due to a
Covid 19
disease
triggered
by a
corona infection
.
As the
Ludwig Maximilians University
(LMU) Munich reports *, more than 3200 of the dead were
over 80 years
old.
Corona protection in Bavarian nursing homes: these are the plans for Söder's special unit
In order to prevent further mass outbreaks in old people's and nursing homes and to better protect the residents, the Söder government has now
set up
a
special unit
.
The new
"Task Force"
is scheduled to start on Monday (December 21).
It consists of more than 200 employees from the state offices for care and health as well as the on-site home supervisors and is supposed to guarantee the protection of all residents of the 2300 old people's, care and handicapped facilities in Bavaria, reports the
Bild
-Zeitung.
In an
interview
, Söder stated there: “The aim is to protect those most severely affected.” The new
vaccination ordinance
from Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) also provides that people over 80 years of age and nursing staff should be the first to benefit from new corona vaccination should benefit.
This could also relieve the homes.
In order to be able to guarantee better protection in the homes, Söder primarily provides for
regular tests of
the staff.
Everyone who works in such a facility should be tested for corona infection at least twice every working week from next Monday.
Even visitors, if allowed, should only be
allowed
access to the homes
with a
negative (quick) test result
.
In the event of a positive test result, immediate
series tests
should now
be carried out
in the facility concerned
.
In addition, there is a strict
mask requirement
(mouth and nose protection)
for staff and residents.
Visitors are only
admitted
with an
FFP2 mask
.
Hard lockdown in Bavaria: Söder clearly rejects the easing of the future
With these measures, which come into force immediately, Klaus Holetschek (56), Bavarian State Secretary for Health and Care, also believes that a major
outbreak
in facilities that have been affected once
could
be prevented in the future.
Whether the total number of infections can be reduced as quickly as hoped - that is currently still in the stars.
Söder itself is as skeptical and the inhabitants of Bavaria is preparing already with warning words on a lockdown before that could go beyond 10 January: "The latest figures are so high that it would be wrong now to a
debate about loosening
enter . "
