The authorities in Italy have released the rescue ship "Ocean Viking" of the SOS Méditerranée sea rescue service.
The fixing of the ship was ended after a renewed inspection by the Italian coast guard, said the non-governmental organization on Monday evening.
The authorities had arrested the ship on July 22nd of this year with the request to fully upgrade.
Previously, the helpers had been in action since August 2019.
According to the NGO, the rescuers had made the requested changes to the ship in the port of the Sicilian city of Augusta.
Accordingly, there are now more emergency life rafts, for example.
The »Ocean Viking« is now to sail towards the French port city of Marseille.
There the more than 20 crew members have to be in quarantine for ten days and refill their supplies.
A medical team and a rescue crew also went on board.
According to their own statements, the sea rescuers want to set off for the central Mediterranean in January and resume their rescue operations.
