The Greens: Annalena Baerbock dares to run the Chancellery - of course, what else?

Annalena Baerbock said in an interview that she dared to become chancellor. The statement should be a matter of course. But because of Baerbock's age and gender, she is obviously not.

A woman has ruled the Federal Republic for fifteen years.

Women have been running the CDU for 20 years.

Nevertheless, it is apparently not a given that Annalena Baerbock dares to be Chancellor.

Baerbock and Robert Habeck are at the head of the party, which, according to surveys in the 2021 federal election, has had the best chance of becoming the second strongest force in the country for months.

At least.

"I trust Robert Chancellor, and yes, I also trust myself to be the Chancellor," Baerbock had told Bild am Sonntag.

Since then, the Greens chairman has encountered a lot of malice in comment columns and letters to the editor.

Apparently what the Greens have been repeating mantra-like for months did not get through.

You dare to lead the country.

You want to challenge the Union.

Anyone who wants to credibly defend this claim cannot shy away from the question of who will be chancellor.

Many Greens believe that Baerbock would be the better chancellor

They have not yet decided whether Baerbock or Habeck will run as a candidate.

That should only happen in spring.

Baerbock and Habeck will in all likelihood find out behind closed doors who accepts the candidacy and present the party with a fait accompli.

According to reports, you and Habeck will decide the question of the candidacy according to who has the greater chance of success.

Party wishes count less than the wishes of the population.

Because he is better known, Habeck should currently be ahead of Baerbock.

While it is therefore apparently agreed in the public that Habeck is set as candidate for chancellor, this is no longer the case internally with the Greens.

If Baerbock and Habeck let their base decide, it is more likely that Baerbock would win this competition.

She is more popular, at functionary level she has more advocates and quite a few elected officials say that they would prefer Baerbock Habeck.

They think Baerbock would be the better chancellor.

They don't want to say that in public.

Habeck knows about Baerbock's popularity within the party.

If she wanted to be a candidate for chancellor, he could hardly refuse her.

The power center of the Greens lies with Baerbock.

Of course she also has weaknesses, for example she has not yet held a government office.

But Friedrich Merz, who is running for the CDU chairmanship and leaves no doubt about his chancellor ambitions, has never had that either.

So far, no one has seriously questioned his suitability as a candidate for chancellor.

One suspects that Baerbock gets so much malice because she is a woman.

Actually, the question of whether she dares to run for chancellor is shortened.

If she did not answer in the affirmative, Habeck could simply declare himself a candidate.

The question should be whether Baerbock wants to become Chancellor and whether she believes she can achieve this goal in the next election.

Nobody should underestimate Baerbock

At the moment it does not look like the Greens will overtake the Union.

Depending on the survey, the parties are 16 to 17 percentage points apart.

The chances of the Greens in the Chancellery are small.

But Baerbock is not under time pressure.

She has just turned 40.

If she did not run for Chancellor until 2025 (then probably with government experience) and win, she would still be younger than all of her predecessors.

Baerbock is therefore not under pressure to act.

Still, they shouldn't be underestimated.

She is ambitious and she has no problem reaching for power.

When asked "Bild am Sonntag" about the fields in which she would act like Angela Merkel (CDU), Baerbock said she appreciated the Chancellor's manner.

“Nonetheless, I go my own way.

Nobody can design as a copy chancellor.

Every time has its color and its personality. "

Sounds like she's striving for office.

If not now, then in the future.
