Since 2015, Le Shan Tang has launched a school-based child development fund with funding from the Bureau of Labor and Welfare. It is hoped that students can learn about their own expertise while learning books.

Through the guidance of social workers and mentors, this program assists students in formulating and implementing personal development plans, building tangible (savings) and intangible (social, interpersonal) assets, enhancing personal resilience and expanding social networks, which will help them in the future. development of.

Each fund plan contains three main elements, namely "Target Savings", "Personal Development Plan" and "Matching of Mentors and Friends".

"Target Savings" is to encourage each participating student to set a monthly savings target of HK$200 for a period of two years.

Le Shan Tang will provide one-to-one matching sponsorship for each student who successfully completes the savings.

In addition, students will also receive a one-to-one matching reward provided by the government.

The total amount of savings can be up to HK$14,400, and students can use the savings to implement personal development plans in the third year of the plan.

"Personal development plan" means that in the first two years of the plan, with the help of friends and Le Shan Tang, the trainees will understand their interests and development direction, and formulate a personal development plan.

"Matching between mentors and friends" is the growth guide for students. Within three years of the plan, the mentors will help students broaden their horizons, enlighten their ambitions, and help them build a confident and positive attitude towards things, and accompany and lead them to grow. .

Establishing mutual trust between teachers and students to improve students' confrontational behavior

Student Acheng (pseudonym) attends one of Leshantang's primary schools and comes from a low-income family.

Ah Cheng often had behavioral problems and confrontational behaviors in school, and he was easy to use his classmates or scold each other; he often disagreed with the teacher, maliciously disrupted the order and often did not cooperate.

Ah Cheng often clashed with her mother and used foul language at home, and her mother responded by beating and scolding.

In the early stage of participating in the Child Development Fund project, Ah Cheng was not very involved in and participated in the planned activities. Just like in the school, he often had behavior problems and conflicts with others. Even if he was counseled by teachers or social workers, he did not accept it.

For example, during the game, he will deliberately break the rules and make other participants feel annoying.

When other participants made accusations against him, he would refute them with deeds and words.

Fortunately, Acheng met a retired, very patient and tolerant friend and teacher.

After being in contact with him, friends and teachers often spend time with him and go out with him, such as playing basketball with him.

Even if your teacher is not good at football, he will try his best to accompany him to play.

The friend and teacher went shopping with him, and took him to Hong Kong Island and outlying islands to see and play.

After the friend teacher and A Cheng gradually established a relationship, A Cheng also gradually felt the dedication and care of his friend. After repeated reminders and persuasion from his friend, A Cheng was finally able to control his impulsive behavior and reduce conflict with others.

In terms of personal development planning, Acheng participated in many workshops and experience activities, such as roasting workshops, coffee blender experience workshops, Hong Kong athlete representatives sharing sessions, and STEM experience activities in the Science Park.

These activities have allowed Ah Cheng to broaden his horizons and help him explore his future direction.

One of Ah Cheng’s short-term goals is to learn basketball. In addition to helping him purchase basic sports equipment, the plan also supports him to continue to enroll in basketball classes and practice basketball skills. At the same time, he also knows many students from other schools. Supporting and building friendships will help him to adapt and change after high school in the future.

Students and friends go to the coffee shop to learn about store management, purchasing and coffee blending.

Students and friends go to Da Po University of Education for elementary teacher experience activities.

Students, parents and friends play together

Students and friends personally made gift bags and gave them to the elders in the district.

In the middle of the plan, the relationship between Ah Cheng and his friends and teachers has become very good. In addition to regular monthly contacts, friends and teachers will often ask him out to play basketball.

During the period, there were some accidents in the friend's teacher's family, but Ah Cheng was able to understand his friend and teacher without any complaints, and knew how to care about his friend and teacher.

After walking with friends and teachers, Ah Cheng has changed from being prone to conflicts with others in the past, and has become able to control his emotions and behavior, as well as be considerate and caring for others.

In the later stage of the plan, I would hear from time to time Acheng asked his friends and teachers for their opinions, whether it was the problems encountered in the promotion, how to use the plan funds or what activities to participate in, it can be seen that Acheng has attached great importance to the participation and decision of friends and teachers. In the final sharing session, Acheng and his mother also expressed their gratitude to their friends and teachers for their help and dedication, so that Acheng can find his own direction and goal.
