Adv. Sagit Afik was elected the Knesset's next Legal Adviser
The Speaker of the Knesset wrote a letter to the Chairman of the Knesset Committee requesting that the Committee be convened and that its decision be approved.
Sagit was one of four candidates recommended by the search committee, and she defeated Deputy Attorney General Raz Nizri and Constitution Commissioner Gur Blay.

Knesset Speaker Yariv Levin has chosen Adv. Sagit Afik as the Knesset's next legal adviser, Levin announced this evening (Tuesday).
The move also requires the approval of the Knesset committee, where this recommendation apparently has a majority.
Sagit was one of four candidates recommended by the search committee, and she defeated, among others, Deputy Spokesman Raz Nazri and Spokesman of the Constitution Committee Adv. Gur Blay.
Levin addressed a letter to Knesset Committee Speaker MK Eitan Ginzburg this evening. To convene the committee to approve his decision. In his address, the Speaker of the Knesset stated that "since we are in the Knesset's transition to election recess, I thought it would be appropriate to complete the election process in such a way that the Knesset will have a permanent legal adviser during this sensitive election period."
He stressed that "at the same time, I thought it appropriate that the completion of the appointment process be done with broad consensus. Therefore, I turned to MK Miki Zohar, Coalition Speaker and Opposition MK Meir Cohen, who confirmed their agreement to complete the procedure now and without delay."

Levin spoke with Afik this evening and informed her of his election, telling her that he is confident in her ability to fulfill the role of legal adviser and lead the Knesset's legal department professionally, while maintaining the status of the Knesset and providing professional service to all Knesset members.
Afik served for many years as the legal advisor of the Knesset Finance Committee, and she was the preferred candidate over Levin, as well as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, because she is not considered a counterpart to Knesset members.
