The "avalanche beeper" can save lives.
But does the search device even work?
Tourers can now check their devices on Wallberg.
Rottach-Egern
- The snow cover in the Tegernsee Mountains is still quite thin - if at all.
Nevertheless, the past weekends have already shown: As soon as possible, ski tourers are pushed into the mountains, currently mainly on the slopes of the closed ski areas.
Check station for avalanche search devices set up
In order to make a contribution to the safety of ski tourers and freeriders, the Association of German Police Mountain and Ski Guides on Wallberg - in the area of the mountain station - has set up a check station for avalanche search devices (VS) and has now put it into operation.
In the future, skiers and snowboarders will be able to check their “beeper” here for functionality before they start their descent.
It is the first checkpoint of its kind at Tegernsee.
The idea arose independently of Corona
According to Michael Gebhardt, the chairman of the association, the idea for this came about independently of Corona.
The initiative was due to the fact that more and more ski tourers and freeriders have been populating the area since normal ski operations on Wallberg were closed.
However, Gebhardt is convinced due to the expected rush in Corona times: "Now even more people will probably use the check station."
The construction was supported by the Wallbergbahn GmbH and the Almgenossenschaft Rottach-Egern.
The association hopes to make a “preventive contribution” with this investment.
