Government of Peru toughens measures due to advance of covid-19

As of this Tuesday, the Government of Peru reduced the capacity allowed in shopping centers, closed the beaches and extended the curfew, to prevent the advance of covid-19 infections in Lima and in the regions coastal areas of the north of the country.

The measure will be in force until January 4, the Ministry of Health reported Monday in a statement.

The maximum capacity allowed in shopping centers in the regions of Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, the department of Lima and its metropolitan area, Callao and the province of Santa will be 40%.

In the case of the beaches, their access will only be allowed for the practice of individual sports or in pairs, in order to avoid alcohol consumption and crowds on holidays.

Regarding the curfew, circulation will be prohibited between 10 at night and 4 in the morning in the province of Santa, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Piura and Tumbes.

While in the department of Lima and its metropolitan area and Callao the restriction will be from 11 at night to 4 in the morning.

The Peruvian Ministry of Health also announced that sanitary control on the northern border will be reinforced to detect cases of coronavirus.

According to the Minister of Health, Pilar Mazzetti, these measures were adopted based on the monitoring carried out of the pandemic, which takes into account different factors, including the occupation of beds in hospitals, that of beds for patients with covid-19 and mortality from this disease.

In the case of an increase in the number of infections, Mazzetti said that the Peruvian government could take similar restrictions in other regions of the country.

As of Monday, the Peruvian Ministry of Health confirmed 998,475 cases of covid-17 and 37,173 deaths from the disease.
