In many French hospitals, no Christmas visit for patients infected with Covid

2020-12-22T14:19:44.478Z

Already affected by the disease, some of the 25,000 people hospitalized with Covid in France will not be allowed to see their loved ones for the end of the year celebrations, except in exceptional circumstances.

A Christmas in solitude.

Patients with Covid-19 and hospitalized in many establishments in France, including those of the Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris, will not be entitled to visits from their relatives in the coming days.

For the time being, no exemption for the end of year celebrations has been communicated to us.

"

Only exceptional circumstances, in particular for end-of-life situations, major psychological difficulties for the patient or special situation of a minor patient

" may be authorized, indicates the AP-HP in

Le Figaro

.

In a document from the AP-HP addressed to families and consulted by

Le Figaro

, we also learn that visits to long-term care units (USLD, dedicated to people over 60) may be prohibited at any time: “

The appearance of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in a care unit can lead to the interruption of visits to the unit.

"

To justify this last measure, the AP-HP cites a ministerial protocol of November 20, 2020, which sets several recommendations for the attention of USLDs and nursing homes.

We learn in particular that "

in the event of the occurrence of new cases of COVID-19 for less than 10 days among residents, visits from relatives are suspended, on all or part of the establishment depending on the architectural configuration of the establishment, except for exceptional individual dispensation at the discretion of the management of the establishment (in particular end of life, psycho-geriatric disorders of a resident).

Visits may resume when no new case has occurred in the last 10 days.

"

Finally, and logically, “

visits are prohibited to relatives presenting symptoms, or suffering from COVID-19, or having been

(a case)

in contact in the previous 14 days.

"

These measures are very restrictive, but they pursue a single objective: to protect your loved one, the personnel and yourself

", one can read on the document of the AP-HP.

This concerns 39 hospitals located in Île-de-France, including Lariboisière, Hôtel-Dieu, Bichat, Louis-Mourier, Pitié-Salpêtrière and Broca hospitals.

The boss of the AP-HP Martin Hirsch, on the front line, deplored Sunday in front of “

The Grand Jury RTL / Le Figaro / LCI

” a strong viral circulation in his hospitals.

Citing the contamination figures of the personnel of the AP-HP, he indicated that "

in June

", after the first wave, there were "

ten or twenty

" contaminations "

per month

".

Currently, "

we are still at 200 per week

".

All of France concerned

If the Paris region is particularly affected by the resumption of the epidemic, the bans on visits to hospitalized patients, with or without Covid-19, are legion in France.

In the Hospices Civils de Lyon, which has 13 establishments in the Lyon metropolitan area and one in the Var, visitation restrictions apply to all adult services, except certain maternity or palliative care units.

The Avignon hospital center also announced that “

as of December 15, 2020, in the services dedicated to the care of Covid patients, visits are prohibited.

"Exceptional visit authorization may be granted,"

when this is necessary to make decisions concerning the patient's journey.

"

In Reims also, the CHU rarely authorizes visits to patients, with or without Covid.

Contacted by

Le Figaro

, the hospital center affirms that "

visits are authorized for Covid patients by medical decision only

", and that a "

digital proximity

" policy is applied to them, without further details.

The University Hospitals of Marseille, the third largest hospital group in France and with more than 5,000 beds, have for their part decided to temporarily prohibit all visits to hospitalized people, except on specific medical authorizations, and in pediatrics and maternity.

The Strasbourg University Hospital, which brings together six hospital sites and more than 2,300 beds, has also prohibited all visits to patients in Covid units.

All of the aforementioned bans were imposed until further notice, at the end of October or during the month of November.

60,900 people have died from Covid in France, according to the latest report published by Public Health France.

25,233 individuals are currently hospitalized.

In total, 2,479,151 contaminations have been detected since the start of the epidemic in France.
