Donald Trump: The allies are getting fewer, the whispers are wilder

In what was probably his last press conference as Attorney General, William Barr finally broke with Donald Trump.

No, he sees no reason to appoint special investigators, Barr said on Monday in Washington.

This applies to the presidential election fraud allegations as well as to the proceedings against Joe Biden's son Hunter.

In both cases Trump had urged such a step, in both cases to no avail.

So now William Barr too, even him.

As attorney general, Trump has always been a reliable paladin.

In the Russia affair, he jumped to the side of the president in March last year by presenting a distorting summary of the final report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, thus relieving pressure from Trump.

Barr put the Ministry under the control of the White House like none of its predecessors since John Mitchell, who held the office under Richard Nixon.

At the beginning of December, just under a month after the presidential election was lost, the relationship between Trump and his attorney general turned around.

Barr said that he had not seen any evidence of election fraud to the extent that would have led to a different election result.

He thus contradicted Trump's baseless allegations.
