The pumps have now been put into operation after extensive planning and work over the past few years.

Schwabbruck

- The small wooden hut on the site of the old sewage treatment plant in Schwabbruck looks a bit inconspicuous.

But it contains the most modern technology including two pumps that now transport the Schwabbruck wastewater to the sewage treatment plant in Schongau.

For the commissioning of the pumping station, the community invited participants and those responsible in small groups.

Outside in the fresh air and at a distance from each other, the inauguration should be at least briefly appreciated in accordance with Corona (before the decision on the hard lockdown).

Because the connection to the Schongau sewage treatment plant is an "important step for Schwabbruck in the direction of sustainability and environmental awareness", said Mayor Norbert Essich, who used the occasion to look back.

"There was still too much biology in the treated wastewater".

The community had been preoccupied with the subject of “sewage treatment plants” for many years.

The existing pond sewage treatment plant was at its upper limit - or as Mayor Essich put it in simple words: "The treated wastewater still contained too much biology".

When it was initially considered to build a new wastewater treatment plant, the municipal council decided in favor of the pumping station for cost reasons - with the consent of the city of Schongau, of course.

It makes sense for everyone involved to use synergies, said Schongau's mayor, Falk Sluyterman, who was delighted with the decision to cooperate between municipalities and the current start of the pumping station.

"It's a super successful project."

Schwabbruck sewage treatment plant: extensive planning

The community started planning on time, praised Johannes Riedl from the Water Management Office (WWA) Weilheim.

From 2015 to 2017, studies were carried out on the sewage treatment plant and the possible routing was examined.

In the years 2018 and 2019, the building design was completed by the company "Wipflerplan" with clarification of the financing and permits from the responsible authorities, Essich looked back.

The tendering and execution of the construction work was on the plan this year.

The line is 3.6 kilometers long to the connection point near the B 17.

With a pipe diameter of 14 centimeters, the pipe volume is 35 cubic meters, i.e. about ten cubic meters of wastewater per kilometer in the pressure pipe.

The pressure line was laid by the RAZ company.

In addition, the existing pumping station in Schwabbruck was rebuilt.

The route runs from Schwabbruck to the Altenstadt barracks along the Schönach, then from the roundabout at the barracks to the roundabout on the B 17, coming under the main road with the connection point to the Hohenfurch sewer.

Work until spring

According to Essich, the total costs amount to around 1.35 million euros gross.

The cost estimate was 1.42 million euros.

The construction was funded by the Free State of Bavaria through the WWA Weilheim with around 50 percent, or 650,000 euros.

The conversions were much cheaper than a new building.

With such extensive work - from mechanical engineering to pipeline construction to measuring technology - the difficulties often lie in the details, said Johannes Riedl from WWA Weilheim.

The planning path had been winding and bumpy, the last time when it came to talking to property owners, maybe a bit rocky, he looked back.

"Not everyone screams 'Hurray'".

Ultimately, however, the community coped well with everything.

Mayor Essich thanked the property owners and residents for their consent to the relocation of the pressure line.

The work is not yet completely finished.

Construction will continue until spring 2021, as engineer Robert Streif explained.

This includes the retrofitting and connection of the rain overflows to the process control system, the planting of pond three as a compensatory measure and dismantling work on the sewage treatment plant (desludging with disposal).

But the biggest tasks have already been mastered.
