Prime Minister Jean Castex admitted on Wednesday that it
"will be difficult"
to give
visibility to the reopening of cinemas and theaters
in the
"coming weeks"
, reiterating his support for a sector
"deeply shaken"
by the health crisis.
"We understand your dismay, your anger and your discouragement,"
said the head of government in a letter addressed
"to those who bring culture to life in France"
, posted on Twitter, in which he again justified the decision not to not reopen theaters and cinemas as originally planned on December 15.

"We ourselves believed until the last day in the possibility of this reopening"
, he admitted, after the decision of the Council of State to validate the closure.
"But, since the indicators were again degraded, the decision to open was not responsible (...) and we have exposed to an obvious risk of epidemic rebound in a few weeks",
has he added.
"This is why, while you ask us for visibility on the next deadlines, or even a firm and definitive reopening date, it will be difficult in the coming weeks to give you satisfaction on this point"
, warned the Prime Minister.
In this letter, Jean Castex recalls that the Minister of Culture, Roselyne Bachelot,
"proposed to work on building a resilient model that could work for the next few months, until the epidemic pressure has subsided and we may reopen all the places of cultivation under the usual conditions ”.
“In the meantime, and as some of you have suggested, it seems possible to us to develop scenarios making it possible to define, for the coming months, the modalities of graduated opening of your structures, according to the evolution of the health situation ”
, explained the head of government.
"We resolutely share your wish to find ways to face the coming months, before the vaccination campaign can produce its effects",
he underlined.
The closure of cinemas and theaters has been extended at least until January 7, the date of the next meeting to take stock of the situation.
