FIGAROVOX / TRIBUNE - While they had come to rescue a woman during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, three gendarmes were killed and a fourth injured by a madman in the Puy-de-Dôme. Benjamin Faucher, member of Students for Liberty in France, pays tribute to Arno Mavel, Rémi Dupuis, ...

Benjamin Faucher is the local coordinator of the Les Affranchis - Students for Liberty movement in France.

Arno Mavel, Rémi Dupuis, Cyril Morel.

Three bright flames went out that night, blown out by the deadly gunfire of a coward.

Three heroes who came to help, now more than a memory in the memories of those who awaited their return.

Three men still young and vigorous, whom death came to mow down in the prime of their lives.

During this time of celebration, reunion and joy, our hearts will remain heavy with their absence and our tears will mingle with those of their families.

Beyond the dead, it is to all of those who have chosen to serve in uniform that we must pay tribute today.

Too often forgotten, sometimes soiled by those who in the comfort of living rooms allow themselves to chant slogans that overwhelm you, it is time to pay homage to yourself.

Too infrequently do we express our gratitude to you.

Yet, be sure, the support of the silent majority far outweighs the cries of hatred of the bellowing minority.

To you, who have chosen to serve under the banner and who have pinned down the will to protect us.

To you, gendarmes, police officers, who get up in the morning without knowing if you will return unscathed at the end of the day.

To you who sometimes endure insults without flinching.

To you, soldiers, who go on mission to distant countries, leaving families and loved ones in the anguish of never seeing you again.

To you, firefighters, who intervene in all circumstances to protect and rescue us.

Up to you, reservists of all stripes, who sacrifice your time off to train and help them.

To you who too often suffer curdling when hatreds are unbridled and insults when spirits are heated

To you who do not count your hours, spending nights and weekends doing your duty.

To you who sometimes spent Christmas away from your families to provide emergency on-call duty.

To you who too often undergo caillassages when hatreds are unbridled and insults when spirits are heated.

To you who submit your bodies and your minds to discipline, rigor and daily training so that we can enjoy the pleasures of life without concern.

To you who answer present when everyone wants to be away.
