A 20-year-old young man was seriously wounded by gunshot Wednesday afternoon in the most important shopping center of Guadeloupe, in Baie-Mahault, in the middle of the Christmas rush, we learned, Wednesday from the gendarmerie, confirming local media information.

While many Guadeloupeans were doing their last Christmas shopping in the Destreland shopping center (commune of Baie-Mahault, in Basse-Terre),
"an altercation between several young people"
would have broken out and
"one of them would have pulled out a weapon. and fired, ”
Captain Rachid Boumlil, second in command of the Pointe-à-Pitre gendarmerie, told AFP.
The injured youngster was taken care of at the upper parking lot by the firefighters and the SMUR, in serious condition, and evacuated to the Pointe-à-Pitre / Abymes University Hospital.
The Research Section has been seized.
No arrests had taken place Wednesday evening.
The fleeing young people were still wanted by the gendarmes who had cordoned off the area and part of the shopping center.
Video surveillance images were being used.
Investigators also had to hear several witnesses.
