The “Save the Cuckoo Forest” alliance handed over almost 800 signatures on Tuesday, Wörthsee's Mayor Christel Muggenthal.

These were collected as part of a referendum and are directed against the construction of a full-range store.

Steinebach

- First banners, then a collection of signatures and yesterday the handover: In the municipality of Wörthsee, the resistance against the plans to build a supermarket in the Kuckuckswald near the partial drainage area is taking shape.

Within a week and a half, the “Save the Cuckoo Forest” alliance collected almost 800 signatures.

“We don't know the exact number,” said spokeswoman Birgit Powell, who, together with Heiko von Tippelskirch and in the presence of numerous citizens, handed over a thick folder with lists to Mayor Christel Muggenthal.

Too many of these lists were in circulation all over Wörthsee, Powell said.

A minute before the handover, a young woman jumped out of her car who wanted to sign the request at the last minute.

Christel Muggenthal made a good face for the surprising game.

"We already talked about these plans during the time of Mayor Peter Flach," she said.

“And we kept reporting and presenting the concept.” The community is now in the process of interpretation.

Doja Muggenthaler, who joined the protest against the plans for the Kuckuckswald with her initiative “Wörthsee for biodiversity”, openly admitted that she was late.

“We always assumed that the supermarket should come to the old Tengelmann on Hauptstrasse,” she said.

It was not long ago that she found out about the exact plans on the edge of the cuckoo forest.

As reported, in addition to the Maro cooperative residential construction project, a full-range retailer with 1,470 square meters of retail space including a bakery is to be built on the edge of the forest.

Around 2000 square meters of forest have to be felled for the wooden building.

In total, the forest extends to almost 4600 square meters.

To compensate for this, a beech forest is planned to be planted on the Ziegelstadel on an area of 2,493 square meters.

The supermarket is too big for the alliance, it criticizes the surface sealing, the ecological long-term damage caused by the felling and the impairment of the landscape.

If there is already a second supermarket in the community, then not just 1.2 kilometers from the existing supermarket, is another argument.

With the referendum, the alliance calls for the construction control procedure for the development plan and the amendment of the zoning plan to be discontinued.

According to Mayor Muggenthal, the signatures are now being checked.

“We are obliged to do this,” she said.

The quorum for a referendum in Wörthsee is 404 valid signatures.

It can therefore be assumed that this will be achieved.

To be on the safe side, the alliance had targeted 500 signatures and is now well above that.

In addition to the signatures, the community also checks the questions posed by the alliance for the citizens' initiative.

This reads: "Are you in favor of the fact that the municipality of Wörthsee does not create any planning requirements for the planned new building of a full-range food store with apartments and therefore discontinues and not pursues the land-use plan procedure (...)?"

If the request stands up to legal review, the municipal council can adopt its goals and stop planning.

Or he lets the people of Wörthsee vote by referendum.

If the municipal council rejects the admissibility, the initiators can go to court.

“In January the subject will be back on the agenda.

we will deal with it ”, announced Muggenthal.
