The Eichenau municipality's peppermint museum is well known.

Now the Chancellor Angela Merkel called personally - and ordered the mint tea.

  • In the

    peppermint museum

in Eichenau there are all kinds of products related to mint.

  • A call to the

    chairman

    in November

, he initially thought was a

    joke

    .

  • At the end of the line,

    Chancellor Angela Merkel was

    personally.

Eichenau

- Eichenau is famous for its mint.

Now the aromatic green stuff from the Starzelbach has got its accolade.

Chancellor Angela Merkel personally called the Eichenau peppermint museum and ordered more of the “so delicious tea”.

In May, museum chairman Hans Kugler sent the head of government a sample of the Eichenau mint.

“Here Merkel - yes, the Chancellor”: Hans Kugler cannot believe that he is on the line this November morning.

The head of the government personally picked up the phone and called Eichenau.

“At first I thought it was a joke,” recalls the museum chairman.

But he soon realizes that he actually has the most powerful woman in the world on the phone.

Peppermint Museum Eichenau: Chancellor showed interest in the work of the museum

The two chat for about ten minutes - Kugler can no longer say exactly how long.

“It was a very pleasant conversation,” recalls the Eichenauer.

The Chancellor was very interested in the voluntary work of the museum.

"Ms. Merkel was very relaxed, she didn't seem stressed." In the conversation the Chancellor also learns that Eichenau used to be an important growing area for her beloved scented plant and that there is therefore its own museum for the plant.

But a chat about the Eichenau wonder herb, the story of which is even devoted to an entry in the Internet lexicon Wikipedia, is not the real intention of the head of government.

Angela Merkel wants supplies.

In May the secretary of the museum, Wolfgang Heilmann, sent the Chancellor two gift boxes with Eichenau mint.

Heilmann knew about Merkel's passion for aromatic greens.

The gift should be a strengthening in difficult times.

A little later, a personal letter of thanks from the Chancellor was in the mailbox.

Peppermint Museum Eichenau: Chancellor Angela Merkel raves about tea

How enthusiastic Merkel actually is about the Eichenau mint can only be seen in a phone call with Hans Kugler.

The Chancellor enthused that the tea was “so delicious”.

That is why she is now doing her job - and ordering 20 cans plus 20 refills.

“Maybe she ordered something for her ministers,” says Kugler and laughs.

Perhaps she needs the supply for herself in these times. After all, the herb is said to have a stimulating effect.

Usually the Peppermint Museum doesn't send orders.

An exception will of course be made for the Chancellor.

Markus Söder would also get something sent, says Kugler jokingly.

But he has not yet reported.

Peppermint Museum Eichenau: Chairman packs mint package for Chancellor

Angela Merkel digs deep into her pocket to enjoy Eichenau tea.

A can costs twelve euros according to the price list, the refill pack is available for three euros.

“The money was transferred immediately,” says Kugler.

His treasurer told him that.

And because a head of government doesn't order mint every day in Eichenau, Hans Kugler packs a few more gifts from Starzelbach into the pack for the Chancellor.

Now Angela Merkel can also look forward to a glass of apple and mint jam and a mint soap.

So when mint clouds waft through the Chancellery these days, you can be pretty sure: The source of the fragrance comes from Eichenau.
