Armando Manzanero was intubated
on Tuesday afternoon to
improve his oxygenation
as part of his treatment against COVID-19, and after presenting physical exhaustion, according to the country's media that refer to a statement from his family.

"Always vital and with an extraordinary strength, the teacher Manzanero at all times was thanking from his mobile phone the messages of solidarity he received," says the statement from his daughter María Elena Manzanero quoted by media such as Reforma, El Universal and Milenio .
"In his medical condition, this meant
physical exhaustion,
so the specialist doctors decided to intubate him, with
full consent and authorization from Armando Manzanero himself,
on December 22 to receive mechanical ventilation support, in a state of rest without distractors and thus to be able to give the opportunity to his respiratory system to reestablish itself ", adds said statement.

"The health personnel in charge of his care report that the oxygen concentration of the respiratory device has had to be supplied in smaller quantities in the most recent hours, because
his lungs are oxygenating better by themselves
, so they predict a
favorable evolution
in his health chart, "the document states.
Manzanero, who turned 85 on December 7, was hospitalized last Thursday after contracting the disease, as confirmed by the Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico (SACM), of which the Yucatecan teacher is president.
On Saturday, his daughter Martha Manzanero Arjona assured the Efe news agency that she was
"responding well to treatment,"
that
her oxygen levels had recovered,
and she denied a rumor about her death.
"Thank God he is responding to the treatment against COVID-19 and will soon be home," shared the Yucatecan, who along with her brothers Armando, María Elena and Diego left Mérida to move to Mexico City.

Manzanero's

"My husband is stable and eager to improve," she declared.
The composer of songs like
'I don't know you', 'Under the table' and 'We are boyfriends' had been
experiencing flu-like symptoms since last Tuesday.

Days before, the musician went to make recordings at the SACM headquarters.
But on Tuesday, after presenting a discomfort "he was treated at his home; however, because the treatment did not report good results, he had to be hospitalized this morning with the intention that he have adequate care."
Manzanero is among one of the most vulnerable groups in the face of the pandemic: the elderly.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, older adults are at higher risk of requiring hospitalization or dying from COVID-19.
The Yucatecan teacher received a face-to-face homage over the weekend in his homeland, Mérida, Yucatán, where they inaugurated a
museum to honor his artistic work

Manzanero also traveled to the United States in November for the Billboard Latin Music Awards, where he received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
In 2014, Manzanero became the
first Mexican to receive a Special Lifetime Grammy
, and in 2010 he received the Award for Musical Excellence from the Latin Recording Academy.
Their album 'Duetos' won the Latin Grammy for best pop vocal album by a duo or group in 2001.
