Tegernsee

- Three Christmas services in a row.

And for all those who do not want to or cannot celebrate outside a service on video - online and in church.

Use the creative leeway, take up and implement the concerns and needs of the people: the Protestant pastor Martin Weber is one of the Christmas saviors.

For months he and his church council thought about how Christmas Eve and the entire Christmas season can be made contemplative and profound under difficult conditions.

After all, you need a bit of advance notice and, above all, your own efforts and internal examination so that the deepest needs and longings of all people are fulfilled at Christmas.

He therefore sees the failure of Christmas 2020, which is under the “Corona star” as a “commercial festival”, to be very differentiated: “Of course, it hits a lot of people in retail and gastronomy very strongly, but the fundamentals why we celebrate Christmas at all and what moves us, This year comes back to the fore. ”He is surprised that so little is publicly spoken about unusual nativity scenes, Advent celebrations, angel offices, devotions and other ways of reflection, while this is precisely what turns out to be a particularly painful loss in personal conversations.

“Because everything we do outside in these weeks will be led inside on the 24th.” Because a lot was canceled during Advent, “the Advent Sundays and Christmas services should be specially designed”.

For Thursday he and his church council have planned three open-air services on the forecourt of the Church of the Resurrection in Rottach-Egern: a children's service and two Christ Vespers.

Their theme: "Rainbow and Christmas".

The theological meaning of the rainbow as a symbol of the loving accompaniment of people by God is wonderfully connected with Christmas, says Weber.

“God becomes a child in order to make his unconditional love and acceptance visible.

A child doesn't ask whether mom and dad love it, it goes without saying - just like with God. "

Equalized in this way, everyone can attend a service - up to now there have been up to 1000 believers at the Christmas Vespers at 5 p.m.

No registration is required for the open-air trade fairs.

"It is important to me that families who want to celebrate together can celebrate together and that nobody who wants to attend a church service has to be turned away," says Weber.

He assumes that although there is a great need for encouragement and support from traditions because of Corona, this is also combined with fear and uncertainty.

That is why there is a video service for those who would rather not celebrate in church, like at Easter.

Even in the first lockdown, Weber found it astonishing that many more people watched the services in church than at home on the computer.

The sermons that he interpreted were always quickly sold out.

Weber says that he learned a lot about the importance of the church space through Corona: "Because digital technology is so natural and arbitrary, it is important for people to visit and linger in their church." They would differentiate very precisely between what good and right and genuine - what is beneficial.

The Christmas video fair can be seen every hour tomorrow from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Christ Church in Tegernsee and at www.tegern see-evangelisch.de.

“With the three different versions, we hope to be able to offer everyone the right service for them - and we are always available for personal concerns anyway,” says Weber, who wants to proceed in the same way with the New Year's service.
