On the day that the National Ministry of Health gave the green light - in the context of the pandemic emergency - to the Russian vaccine Sputnik V, Kirill Dmitriev, executive director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), assured this Wednesday that Russia

plans that the vaccine will be produced in Argentina

in a short time.

It was during a press conference via Zoom with some Argentine media, in which

Clarín

participated

.

In response to a question about the possibility of Sputnik V being manufactured in our country, Dmitriev said:

"We plan to produce in Argentina

.

"

And after noting that at the moment Russia has manufacturing agreements with India, Brazil, China, Korea and Kazakhstan, he indicated that our country has good facilities, that they had already started negotiations with local companies and that they expected Sputnik V to be produced. here

in the second quarter of 2021

.

Dmitriev praised the development of Argentine pharmaceutical companies, noting that the country could provide Sputnik V to other Latin American countries.

At that point, he stressed that vaccines will be scarce in 2021.

Even if all companies achieve their production plans, vaccines will be lacking, which is why he stressed the importance of the partnerships that Russia is promoting to multiply the production of Sputnik V.

In the meeting with the press - which was shorter than expected and in which few questions were answered - Dmitriev also referred to the use of Sputnik V in people over 60 years of age.

In this regard, he pointed out that the vaccine was successfully tested in several thousand people of that age group and that the approval to apply it will be in Russia in the coming days.

The vaccine,

in those over 60 was just as effective as in the other groups

, the official said.

For him, that is a solved problem.

On how long the immunity obtained with the vaccine would last, Dmitriev pointed out that it would be at least one year and that it could reach two years and that it would be an immunity by antibodies and cellular.

In early December, Dmitriev had already referred to the possibility of a local production of Sputnik V.
