Director General of the Ministry of Health: "Pregnant women will probably be able to get vaccinated against the corona virus" (Ministry of Health)

Five days after the establishment of the vaccination centers in the health funds, and two days before the start of immunization in the community - it can already be said today (Tuesday) that advancing the operation by two days, from Wednesday to Monday, led to mistakes, disorder and unnecessary workload.

At this stage, despite the impressive response and vaccinations of over 30,000 people in all centers, deficiencies overshadow the success of the operation.

The funds claim that from the moment FDA approval was received and the vaccines arrived in the country, there was no point in waiting any longer, so they urged the Ministry of Health to advance the operation, also for reasons of competition and image.

But out of recklessness, they did so without being prepared, hurried to open the hotspots, skipped stages and did not provide a satisfactory answer to the great demand.

The HMOs point the finger of blame at the Ministry of Health, claiming that it frequently changed instructions and instructions, and preceded the operation in a way that caused upheavals in the HMOs' systems - which subsequently had to adjust their deployment each time.

The Ministry of Health ordered the funds to summon the patients in the risk groups themselves for Wednesday, so that the "running period" of the operation will be graded and responsible.

However, already on Thursday at 17:00 in the evening, the Maccabi Health Fund opened its hotline for making independent appointments of the insured as early as Monday.

As might be expected, the congestion recorded at the hotspots caused them to collapse within two hours.

Maccabi's decision caused the other funds to also open centers for scheduling appointments and skip the planned vaccination phase - even before the preparations are complete.

According to the ministry's directive, the funds are required to reinforce the centers at a stage when the insured will be allowed to make appointments independently.

In any case, at this stage there are still not enough call centers and there are not enough immunization stations that can answer all the applicants - so it sometimes takes more than two hours to get an answer at the centers.

The funds direct the insured to the websites and the app, but at the moment mostly the elderly can make an appointment for a vaccine, and some have difficulty coping with the technology.

Cold shoulder: HMOs have insisted on operating alone, and vaccine centers are collapsing

Another problem arose in light of the fact that Israel has not yet received approval from Pfizer, the vaccine manufacturer, to split the vaccine surfaces - which include a thousand doses each - into smaller packages, on the order of 250-50 vaccines.

As a result, small regional councils received no response at all.

A total of 11 joint checkout centers were opened today in the peripheral cities, under the auspices of the Home Front Command, which will be responsible for logistics and order at the immunization sites.

At the same time, due to the high demand, the huge box office sites in the center of the country, which were supposed to cater to the entire population, will not open at this stage, but only next week.

Gradually, the HMOs are upgrading and increasing their vaccination centers, but the Ministry of Health has not yet given permission to open more centers beyond the 63 stations, including the hospitals that have opened so far.

So the box offices are forced to make appointments for distant dates, in three weeks or more.

Of the funds, Maccabi stood out in terms of service efficiency.

Clalit, which is much larger than the other funds, also developed the largest vaccine system - but even there they were not without problems when it comes to the call center.

Compared to the competition, United HMO customers received relatively faster responses and shorter queues.

Leumit opened only one call center yesterday, and only today began to open more call centers.

Along with the operation and organization of the vaccination campaign, the medical field is not without its problems.

Yesterday, during a vaccination by a medical staff member at Maccabi's vaccination site in Tel Aviv, a vaccine dose was accidentally taken from a bottle that has not yet been administered, and is therefore equivalent to five vaccine doses.

The vaccinated person was examined and kept under medical supervision in a hospital for several hours in accordance with procedures, and was released to his home in the evening when he was feeling well and without any side effects.

It should be noted that in an experiment conducted by Pfizer in the vaccine development process, it was found that there is no adverse effect on the injection of up to five vaccine doses, except for local side effects in the injection area.

Such incidents may occur in a widespread operation such as the corona vaccine operation, but even in this case the recklessness of the funds has meant that no further briefing or clarification will be made to the brothers and sisters so that such cases do not happen.

Incidents of this kind can lead to public distrust of vaccines and medical staff, leading to failure of the entire operation.

HMOs: The vaccination campaign is going well

The Leumit Health Fund says that "the vaccination campaign at Leumit is going well, with Leumit Health Services preparing for the vaccinations ahead of time, and in light of this it will increase customer service at the call center and the number of nurses at the vaccine centers. "Leumit has opened ten vaccination centers today and will open 12 more tomorrow. So far, about 25,000 appointments have been booked and we expect tens of thousands of vaccinators in the coming days."

Maccabi HMO said: "In the vaccination campaign for Corona, Maccabi went under the stretcher. As soon as it was possible to start, we started. Although we started on Thursday afternoon and knew that we had a Friday and Saturday at the door, we decided to open the appointments. This week, when other funds offer vaccinations for later dates, so far appointments have already been made for more than half of the target group of patients aged 60 and over! The appointment process is now fast and digital and today, for example, more than 50,000 appointments have been made, and yesterday more than 80,000 "The vaccination complexes work well and with high patient satisfaction. The people of Israel are accustomed to emergencies and we receive excellent cooperation from the public and even patience and appreciation."

Clalit HMO, United HMO and the Ministry of Health did not respond.
