The police and the Ministry of Labor and Welfare began today (Wednesday) investigating the circumstances of the roof collapse at the Kadouri school complex in the Galilee, which resulted in the injury of eight people.

The initial inspection revealed that no construction site on the school grounds had been reported to the Safety Administration at all, and other authorities announced a freeze on similar works.

The head of the safety administration at the Ministry of Labor and Welfare, Hezi Schwartzman, told Walla!

NEWS that following the discovery, an investigation will be conducted with the operating company and the local authority.

"The site was not reported to us, we need to see that there is an engineer's permit. If there were children at the site it would have been a multi-casualty incident," he clarified.

"Such a huge structure under which there are children, let's say it would not collapse today and the panels (solar) would be installed - what would happen next? We warn the local authorities to make sure that everyone who works in their area acts according to the law."

"It will be investigated, because it was a step towards becoming a national event in which children are killed," added Schwartzman, who reiterated that "authorities and companies must report construction work to the Safety Administration."

  • A roof collapsed at a construction site at Kadouri School in the Galilee: eight were injured

"If there were children in this place it would have been a multi-casualty incident."

The collapse of the roof at Kadouri School, today

The accident occurred in the early afternoon, during work to install solar panels on a shed erected over a school basketball court.

Eight workers were injured, including a 38-year-old man and an 18-year-old man who were seriously injured and evacuated by MDA helicopter to Rambam Hospital in Haifa.

The 38-year-old underwent resuscitation and underwent surgery, and the 18-year-old's condition is defined as severe but stable.

The 24-year-old was hospitalized in fair condition and two lightly injured were examined and released.

The basketball court was set up next to the classrooms at Kadouri Elementary School, which in the past year has moved to a new complex after cracking in an earthquake last year.

Above the basketball court is a large shed that covers it and the court and is defined as a closed and fenced "contractor site", and has not yet been handed over for use by the school.

The collapse of the roof in balls, today

In recent years, more and more similar works of roofing of public sports fields have been carried out, so that solar panels can be installed on them.

Following the accident in Kadouri, the head of the Kfar Tavor local council, Oded Halperin, who has an elementary school of this type in his area, decided to suspend the works.

"In light of the event of the collapse of a roofing shed on the field at the morning ball school and out of a clear rationale of taking precautions and safety of our children first and foremost, and in order not to take the slightest risk, I assumed that until further notice "Every ascent to the shed, and the field will be closed to activity until an in-depth examination by a constructor," he announced.

He added that "after receiving the opinion of the external consultant on our behalf, the management of the council will convene to make a decision regarding the continuation of the solar project on the shed, in cooperation with the parents' committee."
