Members of the British royal family were photographed apparently in violation of UK coronavirus regulations during a field trip to a park in Sandringham, England.

Royals, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children, were photographed while in close proximity to other family members in a park on Sunday, according to Britain's Mail Online outlet.

Prince Henry and his family walked alongside their uncle Prince Edward and his family as they visited a Christmas-themed walk in the woods near the queen's Norfolk residence, Sandringham, according to Mail Online.

The visit of royalty

Photos shared by the outlet appear to show more than six people present.

In the pictures the two royal families can be seen standing very close as they visit Luminate Sandringham.

Norfolk is subject to England's level 2 coronavirus restrictions, which limit outdoor gatherings to six people.

Visitors to the attraction are asked to stay in groups of no more than six during their visit.

This according to the guide issued by the organizers of the forest walk, Luminate Sandringham.

In response to the article, a Sandringham source told CNN that "there were times in the 90-minute walk when it was difficult to keep the two family groups apart, particularly at bottlenecks along the way."

“The two families were given consecutive separate spaces to visit the trail just before it opened to the general public.

They came and went in their own family groups, ”added the source.

UK Faces Increase in Cases and Variant of Covid-19

The UK is currently grappling with an increase in coronavirus cases and the emergence of a potentially more contagious variant.

Those who live in areas with Level 4 restrictions have been asked not to visit the attraction, according to organizers.

"We ask that all our visitors be respectful of other visitors and our colleagues during their visit," added Luminate.

The government issued new regulations on the coronavirus before Christmas.

As part of these, residents in level 2 areas have been asked to limit outdoor gatherings to no more than six people.

This includes children of any age.

"They can continue to meet in a group of more than six people if they are all from the same household or support bubble or if another legal exception applies," the UK Department of Health and Welfare said on Saturday.
