The Damascus Culture Directorate, in cooperation with the House of Arabic Calligraphy and Arts Society, held an event under the title “Arabic Calligraphy Carrying the Heritage of the Arabic Language” at the Cultural Center in Kafarsouseh, on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of the Arabic Language.

The event included a symposium in which plastic artist Reem Qubbtan, Dr. Dima Barakat and calligrapher Adham Al-Jaafari participated, and it was moderated by Muhammad Samir Tahan, in addition to an educational workshop for teenagers and young men in the arts of Arabic calligraphy.

According to Naima Suleiman, Director of the Cultural Center in Kfarsosa, the event came within the direction of the Ministry of Culture in the project to empower the Arabic language and emphasize the role of Arabic calligraphy in carrying and preserving the heritage of the Arabic language.

In turn, the plastic artist, the head of the House of Arabic Calligraphy and Arts Society, explained that the aim of the event is to clarify the role of Arabic calligraphy as the bearer of the heritage of the Arabic language and to introduce the free Arabic calligraphy arts education workshops that the association holds in Kfar Sousa in cooperation with the Damascus culture for young people and the youth, expressing her hope to expand these activities to include all governorates In cooperation with the Ministries of Culture and Education, to make these learners the nucleus of spreading the culture of Arabic calligraphy among their peers in schools.

Dr. Barakat, a specialist in the Arabic language, discussed during her intervention the topic of the connection of calligraphy with teaching the language, as it embodies its visual image and its role in attracting the foreign learner to study our language, as well as developing the expression and thinking skills of children and teenagers, with an indication of the weaknesses that the language suffers from at the written level because of the learners ’reluctance to learn the arts. Calligraphy.

Calligrapher Adham al-Jaafari explained that the event comes as a celebration of the Arabic language that reflects our culture, identity and heritage, and to clarify its connection with the Arabic script through which it was written down and transmitted its sciences in all its forms to all parts of the earth throughout history, indicating that the march of this line resulted in aesthetic art in the forms of letters and developed over time. Until it had its own and varied schools with its connection to the culture and thought of the Arabic language.

It is noteworthy that the educational workshops for the arts of Arabic calligraphy launched by the association in the cultural center and extending for three months include the art of calligraphy under the supervision of calligrapher Faraj Al Rashi and the art of Al Diwani calligraphy under the supervision of the plastic art of the artist and the art of naskh calligraphy under the supervision of the calligrapher Muhammad Qasim.

The House of Arabic Calligraphy and Arts Society is concerned with spreading and developing the arts of calligraphy, decoration and miniature among groups of society, in addition to various other arts, in partnership and coordination with various official and private cultural institutions and bodies and interested individuals in order to develop aesthetic taste and spread culture in society.
