In celebration of the Sixty-ninth Tree Festival, the Governorate of Aleppo carried out an afforestation campaign in the ICARDA area of ​​the town of Zerba liberated from terrorism by planting 3,500 seedlings on an area of ​​six and a half hectares with the participation of workers in the Agriculture Directorate, the Peasants Union, popular organizations and civil associations.

Engineer Radwan Harsouni, Director of Aleppo Agriculture, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent that the afforestation campaign comes as part of the directorate’s plan to afforest 500 hectares in various regions, especially those that were recently liberated and witnessed great damage due to terrorism, pointing to the continuation of work to secure the plants from the Aleppo forest nursery, which produces 300 thousand forest plantations In addition to the continuing rehabilitation of the Kamari nursery in the countryside of Aleppo, with a completion rate of 70 percent, and its production capacity reaches two and a half million forest plantations.

Engineer George Azar, assistant director of Aleppo Agriculture, stated that the goal of the afforestation campaign is to restore vegetation cover to areas liberated from terrorism, which witnessed hundreds of trees being cut down and burned, as well as to contribute to preserving the environment.

Abdo Yassin al-Ali, head of the Peasants ’Union in Aleppo, pointed out to the farmers’ participation in the tree distant and the contribution to the implementation of the General Union of Peasants ’plan to plant one million seedlings at the level of Syria to compensate for the loss of trees due to fires and damage to forests from unjust cutting as a result of terrorism, explaining that the Aleppo Farmers’ Union branch has recently been implemented. A campaign to cultivate an area of ​​25 hectares in the Maskan area.

Farid Al-Oqab, a member of the leadership of the National Union of Syrian Students at the University of Aleppo, indicated that university students and institutes participated in the afforestation campaign to re-green the areas that witnessed fires due to terrorism by planting more plants and preserving the vegetation.

SANA's camera monitored the views of a number of participants in the afforestation campaign, who emphasized the importance of commemorating the Tree Festival by planting seedlings, which are a symbol of giving and peace and contributing to the return of forests as they were before.
