Some 500 relatives of people who died of the corona virus in Italy have taken legal action against the regional and national authorities, demanding compensation of one hundred million euros.

The civil lawsuit, filed yesterday (Wednesday) by plaintiffs in a court in Rome, is against Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, Health Minister Roberto Speranza and Northern Lombardy governor Attilio Fontana.

Spokesmen for the three politicians did not respond to inquiries hating

Italy, the first Western country to be hit by the virus, has recorded more than 70,000 deaths from Covid-19 since the outbreak in February.

These are the highest mortality rates in Europe, and fifth in the world.

The most severely affected area is Lombardy, where the first patient was discovered on February 20.

The lawsuit was filed by members of the Noy Denonsermo Commission (we will go to court), set up in April to represent the relatives of the victims of the epidemic in Bergamo, one of the hardest hit cities in the province of Lombardy.

"This bag is our Christmas present for those who should have done what they were supposed to do, but did not do," group president Luca Posco said in a statement.
