In February this year, some citizens blocked the road in Tianshui to protest the government's refusal to completely close the customs to prevent the spread of new crown pneumonia.

Two decoration and construction workers who were suspected of being involved were arrested on the spot and charged with one count of illegal assembly.

The two denied the charges and the case opened in Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts today (24th).

MTR staff and police officers stated that someone was near the Tin Shui Light Rail Station that night and dumped bicycles and trash cans off the opposite road, causing the vehicles to slow down and stop.

Magistrate Wang Zhengyu ruled that the evidence was established. The defendant did not defend himself or call witnesses. The prosecution and defense will make closing speeches next Monday.

The 12-year-old defendant in the same case pleaded guilty and sentenced to probation

The two male defendants Chen Wenxi (19 years old, reported as a decoration worker) and Chen Yingkeng (23 years old, reported as a construction worker) denied that they were on the road to Tianhua Village on Tianrui Road in Tin Shui Wai on February 5, and they were with a 12-year-old co-accused Indian boys and unknown persons participated in the illegal assembly.

The boy in the same case had earlier pleaded guilty to causing obstruction in a public place and was sentenced to a probation order for one year.

Willing to admit that the crime of causing obstruction is not accepted

The defense stated that the two defendants were willing to plead guilty of causing obstruction in a public place, but they were not accepted by the prosecution.

The defense stated that it does not dispute the identities, confession, exhibits, and conduct of the two defendants, and will plead the crime of illegal assembly on the basis of admitting obstruction.

The defendant Chen Yingkeng left the court under the cover of an umbrella array.

Staff saw people throwing bicycles and trash out of Tianrui Road

MTR Assistant Manager Jiang Zhicheng confessed that due to frequent vandalism at Tin Shui Station and Lok Wu Station, he went to the Tian Shui Light Rail Station platform for observation at about 8:30 that night.

At about 9 o'clock, he witnessed 5 to 6 people wearing dark coats and masks throwing bicycles and trash cans near the flowers to Tianrui Road on the opposite side, and vehicles stopped.

After calling the police, I was accused of being troublesome

Jiang said that after calling the police, someone pointed at him and said, "It's not too troublesome." He was worried about his safety and immediately backed away.

He also claimed that those who were afraid of throwing objects would later throw the debris on the light rail, so he used the intercom to inform his colleagues not to let the light rail drive to Tianrui Station.

Later, someone yelled: "Go, there are dogs!" The bike-throwing people were scattered, uniformed police and plainclothes police rushed out of Tianrui Village, riot police were running on the road, and some were subdued on the road.

Jiang added that a few seconds after the bicycle was thrown on the road, a car drove out of the Tianrui bus stop on the right and stopped at the first lane on the left about 30 meters away from the obstacle.

Police Constable Peng Zhaoheng said that two lanes were blocked that night, causing two or three vehicles to slow down about 10 meters away from the obstacle.

Police officer said two lanes were blocked

Police Constable Peng Zhaoheng pointed out that about 7 people in black wearing masks threw bicycles and trash cans at 11 o'clock that night, blocking two lanes and causing two or three vehicles to slow down about 10 meters away from the obstacle.

Upon seeing this, Peng stepped forward and stopped the defendant Chen Yingkeng.

Peng Xudao, at that time, there were 5 to 6 citizens waiting on the platform of the Tin Shui Light Rail Station, and about 7 citizens stood at the Tin Shui Bus Station.

The defense pointed out that bicycles and trash cans only blocked the first lane on the left, and the second lane on the left was not obstructed.

Peng disagreed.
