According to the latest assessment, it is expected to provide about 20,000 units in the medium to long term, of which about half are public houses.

She said that this is another railway project 40 years after the development of the Hong Kong Island Line on the Hong Kong Island Line in the 1980s that uses railway facilities to develop public housing to provide public housing. "It highlights the determination of the current government to increase the supply of public housing." Carrie Lam said that housing is the crux of many problems in Hong Kong, and the core of the housing problem is the lack of land to build houses.

In addition to the eight land supply options recommended by the Land Supply Task Force, the current government has also comprehensively reviewed the uses of existing public facilities and implemented the "single site, multiple uses" development model.

She said that the Siu Ho Wan Depot occupies an area of 30 hectares and has great potential for development through a new plan.

Although there are many technical challenges to be overcome for the superstructure development of the depot in operation, she thanked the MTR Corporation for doing a lot of preliminary work for advancing the project, and the relevant departments will fully cooperate in order to start the project as soon as possible and further increase the supply of public housing in the future. .

Carrie Lam announced earlier that the government has found 330 hectares of land for the construction of 316,000 public housing units, which can meet the demand for public housing units in the next ten years in the 2020 Long Term Housing Strategy report. The above land does not include the development of the Siu Ho Wan Depot project.
