When we go deeper, we find a lot of jobs and crafts that have been practiced by hand in many Syrian regions, but what is really lacking is more support, and the most prominent of these widespread professions is the manufacture of rugs from fabric.
Based on this, the Environment Directorate in Homs, in cooperation with UNESCO, has set up a training course to train 70 young men and women with the aim of finding job opportunities and creating small projects for families from several villages who have been affected by forest fires to teach them how to make rugs from consumer cloth with bright patterns and colors to be able to set up their small managed projects To income.
Engineer Talal Al-Ali, Director of the Environment in Homs, indicated that young men and women, housewives and individuals from the local community were targeted to teach and train them on how to make rugs with the aim of achieving sustainable development and smart investment of household waste and the possibility of reducing its quantities through beneficial industries and enhancing youth participation.
In turn, Dr. Sahar Omran, coordinator of the Youth and Women Project to achieve sustainable development and smart investment of household waste at the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, said that the aim of the initiative is to help the target audience to acquire new skills and create job opportunities for them, adding that the handicrafts are to revive the products of the past that our forefathers and fathers lived on.
Trainer Yusra Ibrahim indicated that the trainees learn how to make rugs on the looms, how to sew them, and introduce fabric colors between them to obtain pieces that they can benefit from in their homes.
Trainee Rola Ayoub from Al-Marana village indicated that she was able to weave a small rug on a loom, as she learned how to make use of household waste.
