A policewoman was documented hitting a demonstrator in the head this evening (Sunday) during a protest by members of the Jerusalem faction in Bnei Brak.

Documentation caused a stir among protesters, and police said they would investigate the case.

During the protest, which was attended by hundreds of members of the extremist Jerusalem faction, police arrested 13 protesters on suspicion of violating the law and public order.

Demonstrators blocked main roads, including Highway 4, and threw stones at police forces.

One of the policemen was hit in the face by a stone thrown at him, and received medical treatment on the spot.

The demonstration was held in protest of the arrest of a deserter, who refused to report to the recruitment bureau to sign a postponement of his service.

The police said that "this is inappropriate behavior, as every police officer is expected to act professionally and in accordance with the organization's procedures and values. Accordingly, the case will be investigated and transferred to the appropriate authorities."

However, the police clarified that "this does not diminish the severity of the violent protest that the police were required to deal with. As part of the protest, stones were thrown at police officers, horses and vehicles, along with blocking major traffic lanes in violation of the law."

The violent incident tonight joins a string of police violence incidents documented in recent days during demonstrations across the country.

Among other things, even in a demonstration held last night with the participation of hundreds of right-wing activists in protest of the death of Ohavia Godak at the intersection of the national police headquarters in Jerusalem, there were many allegations of great violence used by the police against the protesters.

Clashes broke out during the demonstration, during which 21 protesters were arrested and 11 policemen were injured.

The police announced that three of the detainees were caught throwing stones at police and protesters also threw stones at civilian vehicles.

"Police forces acted against throwing stones at them and at passing civilians. During this activity, the police managed to seize three hot stone throwers 'al-Ham' and they were taken for interrogation. "In both cases, no casualties were reported," it said.
