The British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca announced today (Sunday) that following a series of improvements in the formula of the vaccine signal it is producing, its effectiveness is now 90% and not 70% as previously claimed.
Pascal Surio, a senior at the pharmaceutical company, told the British Sunday Times: "We think we have found the winning formula to increase the effectiveness of our vaccine so that it meets the standard set by the other pharmaceutical companies.
Surio declined to add further, saying more details would be released soon and that the vaccine would be submitted to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval soon, after being submitted in recent days for approval by the British Health Council.
The UK government has commissioned over one hundred million Asteranox vaccines, which developed the vaccine jointly with Oxford University.
EU countries have already ordered vaccines from the company and Israel has also ordered more than 10,000,000 vaccine doses.
Last week the drug company announced that initial tests done among vaccine testers in the UK show that the vaccine is likely to be effective against the two new mutations that have appeared in the corona virus.
The news has brought a great deal of relief to the public in the UK, which is suffering from a severe increase in the number of patients and deaths from the virus due to the two new strains that have appeared in the country.
