Lattakia Governorate began today a campaign to distribute fruit-bearing trees for free to farmers affected by the fires in the governorate's countryside, and it delivered the plants for free from the Al-Hanadi nurseries gathering to the beneficiary's land, in parallel with the work of the mechanisms to uproot the burnt trees in preparation for planting the new plantings.

Today, 22 vehicles loaded with seedlings of various kinds were launched from the Al-Hanadi nurseries cluster to a number of affected areas in the governorate.

During his review of the operations to help farmers uproot the damaged trees and the delivery of free plantings in the village of Shamiya al-Muhalaba, the governor of Lattakia Ibrahim Khader al-Salem confirmed in a statement to reporters that this process is a continuation of the measures launched by the government in order to support the affected farmers and enable them to return their lands to production again and reduce the burdens that The fires left behind and fully prepared to meet the needs of all farmers.

For his part, the Director of Lattakia Agriculture, Engineer Munther Khairbek, indicated in a similar statement that the results of the initial inventory of the damages caused by fires and after monitoring the required compensation for the size of the damaged crop and trees, the estimates of the number of trees burned were about 1,290 million olive trees and 316,000 citrus trees.

Khairbek indicated that the directorate worked to follow the scientific procedures and coordinate with the research centers and the University of Tishreen where the decision on the reality of the dead trees was postponed to the beginning of January, hoping to reduce the number of damaged trees with the entry of the rainy season, considering that the return of the tree to life and production is better than a new planting. The rains and as a result of field tours showed a decrease in the number of trees by about two-thirds altogether, to the extent of 319 thousand olive trees and 60 thousand citrus trees after the return of the largest part of the trees to life and flowers, which is the number of plantings that were reserved for the affected farmers.

Khairbek pointed out that to facilitate the process of uprooting dead trees and distributing plants free of charge, the governorate has commissioned a number of public companies to put a number of mechanisms in service for this process, as 22 cars were run today with 9 early workers continuing in different areas of the governorate, stressing that if the weather conditions are appropriate, they will be The completion of the planting distribution to the farmers within ten days.

Khair Bey stated that the directorate puts in the first place the interest of the farmer and the return of the land to production, and that the directorate follows up the operations of starting cultivation in the field with the farmers until the tree reaches the production stage.

The head of the extension unit in pine, Eng. Ali Shaabo, indicated in a statement to the SANA reporter that the work is going parallel with securing the "early bearers" for uprooting the dead trees for free, after which intact plants will be distributed to farmers within the priority of the return of the land and the farmer to production, pointing out that so far, about 1200 dead trees have been uprooted On lands belonging to 7 affected farmers, about 1,300 other trees remained in front of us within the scope of the unit’s work, and work continues until all of them are completed.

A number of farmers whom Sana met at the Sindyanah Khairbak farm in the Mahalabi village of Shamiya noted the compensation that was granted to the farmers for the damage caused to their lands and the continued support by uprooting trees and providing planters for free, including Wasim and Dorid Khairbek, whose land was exposed to fires, confirming their work to return their land to green and productive as before.
