Dozens of rabbis from religious Zionism, heads of councils and settlers today (Sunday) appealed to Internal Security Minister Amir Ohana to set up an external commission of inquiry to investigate the death of his beloved brother, Godfather, who was killed during a police chase in Benjamin.

The rabbis stated that they "fear an abyss that may open up between the Israel Police and large sections of the public, with an emphasis on the youth, in the wake of this tragedy."

"This is a very serious, painful and unprecedented event," they wrote.

"There is a public sense of wrong priorities, in which enormous resources are allocated to the care of a small group of settlement boys, while thousands of nationalist and criminal incidents affecting settlers and IDF forces every day are not addressed at all in many cases.

It is of utmost importance to restore trust.

There is no other way to do that than to set up an external commission of inquiry. "

Godfather, 16, was killed Monday in a police chase that followed him and his comrades after throwing stones at a vehicle in which Palestinians were traveling.

According to police, the force that was called recognized the vehicle and ordered the passengers to stop - but despite this the driver began to flee the scene quickly.

The Department of Police Investigations at the State Attorney's Office opened an investigation into the incident, in which the boy was found dead.

So far, four police officers have been questioned with a warning and testimonies have been collected from other police officers.

Hundreds of people demonstrated last night in front of the national police headquarters, and during the demonstration there were clashes between the demonstrators and the police, during which 21 protesters were arrested and 11 policemen were injured by stone throwing at them.

In an unusual case during the demonstration, an Arab family was attacked in their car.
