A woman
survived
after the car she was traveling
in fell off a cliff
on the beach in San Francisco, California.
It landed on its roof in the sand, authorities said Saturday.

The driver, the only person in the vehicle, was taken to a trauma center in
serious condition
after the rescue (which occurred on Christmas Day), according to Lt. Jonathan Baxter of the San Francisco Fire Department in an email. Email to NBC News, Telemundo's sister network.
A rescue team responded on the cliff after the vehicle ended up on the beach, the department said in a statement on Twitter.
A red "sea rescue" van was used to pull her out of the sand.

The incident occurred at
Fort Funston, a
coastal land located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
The woman was not identified by authorities, who were trying to determine how the vehicle ended up on the cliff.
