No offense to some, competition and progress are not empty words.

The French and the entire planet are not out of the woods, however.

No need to cry victory.

We will have to wait several more months before a majority of the population is vaccinated, a sine qua non of collective immunity.

Until then, everyday life will continue to look like it has been for almost a year: hardly cheerful.

The masks will not fall off.

All freedoms will not be restored.
