The Association of Muslim Scholars in Lebanon condemned the burning of a camp for the displaced Syrians in the Miniyeh region in northern Lebanon, stressing that this act is "barbaric and does not reflect the reality of the people of northern Lebanon."
In a statement issued today, the gathering called on the Lebanese state to arrest the perpetrators and impose the most severe penalties against them, and to coordinate with the Syrian government to facilitate the return of the displaced to their homeland.
In a similar statement, the Association of Popular Committees and Associations in Lebanon affirmed that the burning of the camp for the displaced Syrians is not only a crime against humanity, but also a crime against Lebanon, society, the state and values, and against the Lebanese-Syrian brotherhood that has been rooted for decades.
The grouping said: “We do not consider the perpetrator to be the one who set fires in the tents only, but rather he is the owner of the escalating racist discourse against the Syrian and Palestinian brothers, and he is every local and regional party that puts obstacles to the return of the Syrian brothers to their country and tries to use this humanitarian issue to serve suspicious agendas.” He called on the Lebanese state. To uncover the criminals whoever they are and to inflict maximum penalties on them.
The day before yesterday, a number of people set fire to a camp for the displaced Syrians in the Miniyeh district, which led to the displacement of hundreds of displaced persons and significant material damage.
