Penzberg - Construction sites were not uncommon on the Munich-Garmisch motorway in recent years.

For some time now, individual sections of the route and bridges on the 50-year-old A 95 have been gradually renewed, most recently for example the motorway bridge at Seeshaupt.

In 2021 and 2022 it will now be the turn of the bridge at the Penzberg-Iffeldorf junction.

This was confirmed by the Southern Bavaria Autobahn Directorate on request.

A95 near Penzberg: bridge renewal in 2021 and 2022

The whole thing will take place in two stages: In the next year, according to the current planning, the demolition and renewal of the bridge section on which the lanes in the direction of Garmisch-Partenkirchen are located.

In a second step in 2022, the partial bridge structure with the lanes to Munich is to be demolished and renewed.

A95 and state road: traffic obstruction during construction work

There will be traffic obstructions during the construction phases.

This affects both the autobahn itself and the state road between Penzberg and Iffeldorf, which runs under the bridge.

There is only a bottleneck on the autobahn: traffic is directed to one lane at a time.

On the other hand, according to the Autobahn Directorate, there will be full closures on the state road during the demolition work in 2021 and 2022.

During the time of the new construction, the traffic on the state road will probably be directed past the construction site in one lane with the help of a traffic light, the authority said.

According to the Autobahn Directorate, construction will probably not start in March or April 2021, as assumed.

At the moment, the last studies on species and environmental protection are still ongoing, they say.

As soon as these have been successfully completed, “construction will probably start at the end of May 2021,” said the authority.

She did not provide any further information on the further schedule.

A95: Bridge renewal near Penzberg-Iffeldorf is expected to cost around 2.2 million euros

The construction cost for the new motorway bridge at the Penzberg-Iffeldorf junction is estimated at around 2.2 million euros.

In the course of audits “a comprehensive need for renovation” was determined, it said.

In principle, this applies to the entire A95, which was built in the course of the 1972 Olympic Games and is already around 50 years old.

At that time, the route was designed for a different volume of traffic, and the standards had also changed, said Josef Seebacher, spokesman for the southern Bavaria motorway directorate.

According to him, bridges and carriageway in one section will be renewed at the same time so that traffic is impaired as little as possible.

This is also the case in the current case: between Wolfratshausen and Penzberg-Iffeldorf, the A95 is being given a new lane over a length of nine kilometers, which means an investment of 4 million euros.

In 2023, the state road on the A95 is to receive traffic lights

There will also be changes to the motorway exits to the state road after the new bridge has been built.

The Weilheim State Building Authority plans to equip the areas on the Penzberg and Iffeldorfer sides with traffic lights.

Andreas Lenker, who is responsible for the Weilheim-Schongau district at the State Building Authority, expects the traffic lights to be set up in 2023.

In the course of this, according to him, the pavement of the state road in the direction of Untereurach is to be renewed.

It is also currently being checked whether and how a footpath and bike path to Untereurach, possibly on both sides including a crossing, can be integrated.

The original ideas of regulating the driveways and exits with two roundabouts have long been off the table.

Two years ago it was said, as reported, that they would not be pursued because of land acquisition problems.
