On Christmas Eve, New Yorkers received a compelling warning, worded like a three-point reminder: Avoid traveling, don't hold a large family gathering, and most importantly, wear a mask.
This is exactly the same advice given on the eve of the Thanksgiving long weekend, a tradition even stronger than the Christmas holidays.
Nothing terribly restrictive, compared to the drastic measures taken or envisaged in Europe, but this message is also a dark omen: despite the closure of the interior rooms of restaurants since the swerve of the pandemic observed at the end of November, the mayor, Bill de Blasio , gives its citizens a
"chance"
to spend a relatively peaceful Christmas, albeit in a small group, before tightening the screw.
