A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck central Croatia on Monday (December 28th), with the epicenter near the capital, Zagreb, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said, claiming no casualties according to initial reports.

The epicenter of this earthquake was 49 km southeast of Zagreb (700,000 inhabitants) and 13 km southwest of Sisak (35,000 inhabitants), according to the same source.
It was felt at 6:28 a.m. (5:08 a.m. GMT).

We have not yet been informed of the damage,
" said on national television (HRT), Kresimir Kuk, head of the Croatian Seismological Institute, for his part reporting a magnitude 5.0.
Media reported some minor damage in Sisak where facades of buildings collapsed. The Croatian capital was struck in March by a magnitude 5.3 earthquake which caused extensive material damage. The Balkans are an area of strong seismic activity and earthquakes are frequent there.
