Thomas Heurtel finds himself at a crossroads.
The French base is running out of time to break with Barcelona (he has 9 days left) and look for a new destination:
January 6 is the deadline for a player from a Euroleague team to sign for another
club that plays this competition.
Barcelona and Heurtel had very advanced negotiations for him to dissociate himself from the culé team until the Catalan club discovered the deception.
The player and his representative agency (BeoBasket) conveyed Fenerbahçe's interest to him, but
the Turkish team was looking for a center in the market, not a point guard.
Madrid, on the other hand, was on the prowl.
A stratagem to divert attention and that provoked the anger of Barça, who left Heurtel in Istanbul after the match against Efes.
But what options does Heurtel have now?
Barça gave him permission on December 24 not to attend scheduled training.
Therefore, you could say, it is outside the team dynamic.
If both parties reach an agreement before January 6, Heurtel could commit to any club in the Euroleague.
That seems the most logical option and could take place even before 2021. The question is whether an exit would be agreed only abroad or also including ACB clubs (in this case Madrid).
But if Barça maintains the punishment of the French and does not facilitate his separation, his departure would be almost impossible and the point guard would be forced to end the season in Barcelona, but outside the team.
It would be another near-blank season for a player who tore his patellar tendon in his left knee in the summer of 2019 and has barely played in the last year and a half (38 games total).
Heurtel renewed in the summer of 2019 for two seasons with an optional third:
contract ends in June 2021.
He joined the team in the summer of 2017 and was the hero of the two King's Cups (2018 and 2019) that Barça raised with Pesic on the bench.
In all the Classics of his career (17 in total),
Heurtel has averaged 13.2 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists for a PIR of 12.
In both Barcelona cup titles he was the MVP.
