Exciting and exhausting: even for the experienced Mittenwald doctor, Dr.

Verena Wörndle last Sunday was a memorable one - she injected the first corona vaccine in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Sunday.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Now it has to be quick.

Every move is perfect.

A small group is gathered around Verena Wörndle.

All steps of the doctor and the four employees of the Bavarian Red Cross are clocked like clockwork.

What they have to do is completely new territory for everyone.

Everything revolves around a small ampoule, the content of which is currently more valuable than gold, which has to be stored in secret locations and transported under police protection: the vaccine that is supposed to declare war on Corona.

Exactly 100 residents in three care facilities were vaccinated on Sunday by Wörndle and doctor Kristina Ott.

For Wörndle, née Lorber, syringes are actually part of the professional routine.

But what she holds in her hands on Sunday even the experienced doctor demands.

The corona vaccine is very unstable, needs perfect temperatures and meticulous storage.

Otherwise it will be ineffective.

Corona vaccine is very sensitive and laborious to store

Wörndle enriches the valuable liquid in front of the residents' eyes.

BRK employees have instructed them in advance so that everything goes faster during the vaccination.

Wörndle turns a wheel a few times and adds saline to the lymph.

Then the contents are ready for injection.

It may no longer be moved.

Wörndle puts the needle on the arm of a senior citizen and presses the liquid into her body.

Done.

The team only needs a few minutes per vaccination.

“But we still have to perfect a lot in terms of time,” says Wörndle.

But it is already on the right track.

Between noon and 3 p.m., two teams vaccinated the 100 residents.

But time management will be improved: at the latest when the vaccination station at the Alpspitzwellenbad in Garmisch-Partenkirchen opens.

The Mittenwald native was able to gain a lot of experience.

“I was really excited.

You don't do something like that every day. ”But she sees the start as a great success.

“The people were friendly, they almost all wanted to be vaccinated.” There were no problems, and there were no side effects.

Now she is hoping that people will be more ready to be vaccinated: “You don't need to be afraid,” she says.

Wörndle is now waiting for her next assignment on weekends or public holidays.

Because she continues to operate her practice on Mittenwald Karwendelstrasse during the usual opening times.
